Final Fantasy X2
A couple of stories have been posted on IGN this week about the next Final Fantasy game and no, it isn't FFXII.
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/374/374939p1.html
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/375/375036p1.html
Uniquely for the FF series this game is a sequel: it follows on from FFX.
Not much is known about it yet, but Yuna appears to be the main character and while the game is definitely an RPG the news items mention seeing clips of Yuna running and jumping between platforms.
I know .... I know ..... but it might not be as bad as it sounds.

Wow, Yuna's really cute.
I am kind of surprised Square is going down this route, I never thought I would seem them make a sequel to a final fantasy game. Plus, doesn't that just sound kind of odd? Final Fantasy X 2! Oh well, it looks really cool. I just wish they would make a Final Fantasy VII 2!

I heard from somewhere that they're doing sequels now because they don't want to do FF XIII, since they fear bad luck or something like that. Prolly a rumour, nothing else...? Oh well, FF is as good as dead if Uematsu retires and they can't procure another musical genius even close to old man Nobuo...

FF XII is also in development, they just don't want it to overshadow FF X 2...

Yes it will be. This is a blatant attempt to cash in by the Square higher-ups... darn it, I really liked FFX's ending! Now they're going to go mess it up. Oh well.
FFXII still looks awesome though.

FFXII is a blatant attempt to cash in too, so was FFIX and FFX ... all of them, in fact. Every sequel to a successful game that has ever been made has been a blatant attempt to cash in on the popularity of the original.

Yes, but there's a difference between "Go make a great game that will sell tons" and "let's quickly rip something off with a popular name." Sure, whenever Square wants money they can just make a new Final Fantasy game... but they generally make each Final Fantasy awesome, so it's hardly something to complain about.
FFX2 smells like a cash-in more than, say, FF12 which I think (hope) will be up to the FF series usual standards.

Re: the ending of FFX
I didn't really like it. What I saw after the credits struck me as... stupid, actually. Silly. Without it IMO the ending would've been a lot better.

<-- Still has to buy FF VIII and X... hasn't played a FF since VII.
*sighs*
If I only could take off of life for about a year and just game... and have unlimited amounts of money...
Oh well... finally got a PS2 so maybe I'll try to get a hold of FF X.

You should get FFX, but I wouldn't bother with FFVIII if I were you. It wasn't very good.
FFX is the best of the series so far IMHO.

FFX - excellent. Auron is cool est. Music was a bit lacking IMO but otherwise it was nice. I liked the combat and character systems. And the random encounters didn't get too annoying.
FFVIII - - The character building system reeketh. And the story. And the lead male character. And the lead female character (!).
Had some good music though, but nowhere near FFVII. I'm especially fond of Laguna's battle music (The Man with the Machine Gun). And Laguna was pretty cool.

If it wasn't for the fact that I'd really like to own all the FF games I'd really not buy FFVIII... maybe I'll get FFX first though... wait until FFVIII hits the bargain bins at an even lower price. $20 USD currently.

Hey, i just completed final fantasy X about an hour ago! I was pretty impressed with the game as a whole but it certainly wasnt as good as final fantasy 7. I liked the ending though, it was a real tear jerker. I also loved the music in the game, the piano song being my personal favourate, with the hymn of the faith close behind. I dont agree with square making a sequal though, but saying that ill still probably buy it!
