At least, you'd think the English-speaking nations would get it at the same time - what sort of localisation could be required? Civilization to Civilisation? Well, I'd live with the Z. OK, enough

So Japanese always gets their console games earlier than us. Thats not fair for us US consumers isnt it then? International schminternational, companies are gonna release it in their native country first, whether you like it or not.

Those outside of North America should check the 'PTW` OFFER FOR EUROPEANS' on the Civ3 news page.
You could also just order the English (American) version from Amazon or what-not, right?

Yeah, great its gone gold.
Not that you'd know it from reading the Civ3.com website. The developers are obviously too overcome to have updated the website at all for three months.

Japanese console games are in japanese in japan We're talking about why Civ3 is released later in those parts of the world that doesn't translate the game.
BTW, when it comes to console games there are more aspects aswell, you can for example not play a japanese game in an european playstation.
But for Civ3: PtW we will have the exact same game in sweden as in US. Perhaps they'll translate the Quickstart guide and the text on the box, but that's all. Same CD, same manual = No reason to release it later in sweden (or norway, australia, etc.).

Shipping overseas. Or arranging for local production (why didn't they PRE-arrange it?). Lack of PERFECT coordination, probably the result of not having unlimited funds in the first place.
If Civ3 was developed in the EU, there would probably be a delay to get it to the USA. OTOH, there is not a single predominate language in the EU, so maybe it would have been marketed in the USA first after all.
In the next 10-20 years, we will probably all be crying that software is developed first for China because of the much larger market there.

No, you can't order from amazon.com to a UK address and amazon.co.uk is not releasing until the 22/11 (11/22 for the yanks).
I did, however, manager to order from Gamestop.com. Hope they will deliver!
On a similar note, my even more must-have game, Master of Orion III, is being released almost at the same time in the UK and US - also through Infrogames. Wonder why the difference?

Dude - Gamesman has been advertising Duke Nukem Forever as for sale "SOON" for most of two years now (it is of course not yet finished). Not even they have listed PTW as "SOON" in NZ. Looks like it will either pass NZ by, is not scheduled (meaning sometime in mid Jan at the earliest), or it will quietly slip into the Warehouse without warning.
Such is the way of our quiet little backwater...
EDIT: I'm WRONG!!!! Gamesman has it scheduled for November 26th! If only I was still in the sodding country then.

Games developed in Europe are often released in US at the same time as in Europe (Battlefield 1942 for example), but perhaps the coordination is better over here
And I don't care if people hate me for this, but I think this delay is really stupid, and I will definately pirate it on the (US) release day, and buy it as soon as it is released in Sweden. (Yes, I DO buy the games I like, so in this case I believe I have the moral on my side, even though not the law) Why should I pay extra money to have it shipped from US when there is really no reason for Infogrames to delay the European release?

The flaw with that logic is that Infogrames is a European company.

Infogrames entertainment is international, they have two divisions, one in US and one in Europe. Since Civ3 is developed in US I would bet some good money Firaxis mainly cooperates with the US division...
And the thing is that many games are released at the same time world wide, especially those created in europe. And many other that are delayed, aren't delayed as long as three weeks. UT2003 was released only about a week later in Europe if I remember correctly. (and I am always reffering to the non-localized versions!).
Oh, and if I seemed angry in my last post it was not intended, "annoyed" or "irritated" would be more like it. I mean, having to wait 3 weeks is not the end of the world or anything, I just don't understand the delay.

Anyone heard anything about an Australian release date?
Actually, why is it that there are different release dates for different parts of the world? Is there red tape that must be overcome, or are they just sadisitc? (Same thing for movies, it can take months fo a movie to get from USA to other parts of the world, except for Star Wars Episode II, which came out on the same day and thanks to time zones this meant it was out in Australia long before USA! )

You are right. I canunderstand the delay when they have to translate the game. That takes time and the developers are probably changing stuff up till the last minute. It doesn't make sense when there is no translation involved.

I think I'm going to wait until after it's patched and the price goes down to $19.99 before I make my purchase, thank you. Knowing a bit more about Infogrames and their business practices now, I think that would be the prudent thing to do (for me).
