I wasn't impressed with Panzer General 3D Assault but the Eastern Front follow up, PG3: Scorched Earth has had much better reviews.

The first one wasn't bad, the basic mechanics are the same. There's actually just one major change: in P3, all units take up a slot regardless of the rank of the leader.

I prefered Pacific General - bit more variety and also the Far East doesn't seem to have that many games on it. Pacific War and Rising Sun are the only ones that spring to mind.

Makeo,
What kind of error messages and what OS?
Standup,
I am waiting SSI to do an updated Pacific General. That seems to be the logical sequeal, but I am not sure if they are going to do it.

Russian fighters aren't that great, but when you can field 5 squadrons of them, you kick arse.

Even though tanks are impressive, relying solely on them get you nowhere fast. You must use combined arms tactics.

I dunno this 'Blitz'ABility seems overpowered to me,
trying currently to win by using Tanks(/w Blitz) 'n Arty
works as far as I tried (4Missions).
Of course it works even better combined with Pioneers...

That's Engineers.
"Blitz" is pretty good, but the uses are somewhat limited. You need to force an enemy unit to retrict with a tank unit, and it takes an action. So it's pretty balanced with, say, 'Tactician."
