Morgan's Voodoo Economics
Just whiling away some time and started a single-player OCC game (as Datajack)
It's 2141, and I'm alone on a small island, have just spent 40 credits changing to FM, have 6 credits in the bank, and Morgan calls
We trade techs, sign a friendship treaty, and I pop the question "Shall we pact?"
"I'd love to", he replies, "but only if you can see your way to sending me -50 credits"
"Sure", I reply, "no problem". I wire the -50 credits, and we pact.
And, of course, I now have 56 credits in the bank!!
Ah well
G.

Ah, computers. Gotta love 'em. Especially when they do something so stupid it's actually funny.

The evil side of this, is that you CAN technically do the same on a superficial/unadvised HUMAN player....
I think to recall that I once in a game I can't remember, tired to put that 0 energy in the box to make the message pop up by the other guy, and as a prvocation as a negotiation was going sour, I put -100 energy in the box... I think it was with Mongoose himself...
Well, to my suprise he told me that I almost got him, he was just about to accept, giggling at how could I be so confused to gift him 100ec, when at the very last moment he noticed the little minus sign in front of the sum....
I never for one moment imagined that he could overlook and trigger the trap, I only intended it as an evident gauntlet slap in the face....

Truly! It's one thing to gotcha the not-AI, but a human? Well done! Must be all the sleep deprivation we endure for the game . . .

MariOne, I plead Guilty with extenuation by distraction. JAMiAM and I were deep in plans to probe rape MoSe Biochemical?, Genaciv was being his normal duplicitious self and I was near to war with Marc...
Wish we could have finished that one, it was building up to be a barnburner.

Morgan often offers negative money for a pact. I have not seen negative money come up at any other time except from devious human players, as you mention!

*bump*
I normally just lurk the AC portion of the site and I hate to bump an old thread back to the top while I'm just mining the AC threads for anything useful, but this thread is the best named thread I have ever seen... I love the reference

I once tried to test out whether or not negative energy could be traded in a SMACv4 PBEM where I was playing two different factions - I offered negative ec's to my alter ego and accepted it, but nothing seemed to change hands.
OTOH, in another (SMAX) PBEM an experienced player offered me the negative ec's along with a truce, preaccepted; I didn't notice the minus sign, but didn't accept as I was thinking that he hadn't really meant to accept it in advance. When I said something about it to him, he said that it was a trap, so I guess he thought it would go through if I had accepted.

Have anyone actually managed to fool anyone with this "entrapment" and does it really work against other faction being the active part insread of the passive part as the case with morgan?

Sounds like Morgan needed a tax writeoff.
