Yes I 'll join after 3 /11 /02. I now have a good idea of the PBem procedures but I don't have a MP game scenario. A 4 person game with 3 AI opponents is one recommended as it can be played reasonable fast.
After the game has been set up, In essence you receive your game turn as a .sav file. Then load SMAC/X and load multiplayer. Load the sav file sent to you. You may have been emailed your password by the game designer(CMN) or invited
to make up your ownpasword. It will ask you to confirm password. Do so and then shortly you are into you moves for tha turn. When you have completed your move and all the changes you want, the game will say turn complete. If you agree it will then show you the next player message. Press save and exit and you will asked to save the file. Do so and save it, but change it say drogue. hive- 21xx (the turn year).SAV. email this sav file to the next player.
In the meantime as we are getting the four players decide whether you want to play SmAc or Smax, what factions people want to be and what type of planet.
If one of the CMN's offers to host the game they may have an already made game, in which case a lot of things may already be decided.
Meanwhile read all the help files and strategy files available at this site and elsewhere.

I'm up for a game in two days.
Hercules mostly summed it up, except for the all-important step of zipping the file before you send it. SMAC/X .sav files are ugly-huge.

What the man said is true, after four players games get rather long. However, look at my thread...I'd like to play two games, and mine only has two people as of yet.

In Poland Smax was never published and I didn't managed to get any copy... I think that 7 human players isn't a bad idea
I mean, a game in which you can play for very long... Maybe it's a little stupid but I always liked to play that kind of game
Of course I will accept any kind of pbem game but i prefer more players (even if one turn will take 1 week to be completed )

It looks like two games of 3/4 players shaping up here which is fine.
As Kirov will verify, we are both in a 7 players game but it is even slower than I thought possible. In my view 2 or 3 4 player games are best unless you have experienced or known 'at least 1 turn per day' players participating.

Oh Yeah. We need somebody to set up the game(s) and it looks like Smac. If nobody else wants her ladyship I 'll choose Deirdre.
