PBEM, Anyone?
So, who's up for PBEM game???
Personally, I think this is going to be my favorite way of playing MP.
Afterall, this is sort of an SP game with a creative AI
I'will probably try the other MP possibilities , but I don't really think their my 'thing'
Anyone???
ps: Allthough I don't think it really matters, I usually play Emperor level.
MP is going to be a completely different ball IMO

I think this is gonna be my one and only option for Civ3 MP too, with 56k and my shitty comp we may be seeing more people signing up for pbem games, after all the excitement has died down with turnless modes anyway.

PBEM can be a little slow moving for my taste. Me and my friends all have cable so I probably wont play PBEM.

Your right. This is bigger then Deity. I am sure that the satisfaction of winning a MP game will be huge.

I have never tried PBEM games before, so I'd like to try it...I like to have some time to deside the next move...can't do that in the other game modes
I usually play on regent, but I have played a few games on monarch, so I'm proberbly going to be killed fast...but hey, somebody has to lose, right

i hate PBEM games because of the diplomacy. the fact that an AI takes over my diplomacy during YOUR turn pisses me off to all hell.
sure, they give you "buttons" and "sliders", but the AI never thinks like i want it to.

UberKruX, who said you need any AI civs?...
I have some kind of snobism over AIs... If you can do without, nothing beats human INTELLIGENCE (not reflex).
So Uber, you stil looking for Gallactic Civ?

The MP will not be more difficult than Deity, IMHO, because 80% of Civ players have never beat Monarch level.

As I've only a poor little 56k connection, PBEM will be the only option I have (if the download data won't be too much...)
Oh, and playing against humans means that everybody has equal starting units/funds and no advantages concerning anarchy and disorder. So the AI-cheating in Emperor level (I like that one, too) is much worse than a human opponent...

i think pbem will be my favourite option, too. that's if i find anyone to play against.
will there be a special section on this site, so people can arrange to play a mulitiplayer game? i will probably have to play by email, as otherwise the bill would be huge, but evenso i would love to play a few games online.

Im hoping they fixed that in Civ3 PBEM, in fact they even fixed that in CtP1 so i dont see why not.

There will be some people im sure, even if it takes a while, they usually come crawling back to pbem. Its good for people with not enough time to spend 6 hours straight online, theres bound to be a few of those.

Us Euros will very likely get the game a few weeks after the Americans, which might make things harder to arrange.
PBEM games always go on for a long time, so the smaller the map the better IMHO. Of course, the size of the map will depend on the number of players...

PBEM is great if online is too slow. Call to Power would have died a lonely death years ago if it wasn't for PBEM. Curiously, PBEM has allowed a revival of online multiplayer in CtP years after it was released. Even stranger is the fact that more people are playing Call to Power now than they ever were
Considering the flaws in CivIII, multiplayer in all it's forms may be a godsend for it I for one have still not bought Civ3 as i'm still waiting for multiplayer. Not long now!!!

PBEM games will probably work best for me, since I don't have large blocks of time to play usually (unless other people are willing to only play a couple hours at a time... I have a cable connection so connection lag won't be a problem). I'm thinking MP scenarios will also be fun.

I'm playing usually on monarch, but except if we will be playing with a lot of AI civs, in what way does it matter? Other than how much does the AI cheat, is there any difference between the difficulty levels ?
I've got my civ3 copy only a month after I ordered it, so don't count on me too soon (considering how many people are actually buying games in Eastern Europe, it is not much a surprise)
But after I get it, count on me

Oh yes, everything on random is a good idea. This will make the games interesting, challenging and more diverse.
Edited:
I forgot something. I want to play with culture flipping on

I've never done the PBEM thing before. I'd like to try it too. I'm a regent player as well, so that should make me a target....
I'm concerned about it being particularly slow, especially early on. Is there any way (I wonder) to play several turns at a time early in the game? Probably not...
I vote for random everything. Let me know when you intend to start...obviously some time after Nov 3.

Ok, let's start making a list, who's in 'The first PBEM game'?
Don't look at the votings here, since they might be screwed up...a new (better) voting has begun on the next page
'The first PBEM game':
Map:
- random (What can be random, will be random)
- Size: Not decided (Give your vote)
- Standard (2 vote)
- Small (1 vote)
Culture:
- On
Max number of Human-Players:
- Give your vote!
- As for now: 8 (2 votes)
- 8 (2 votes)
- 6 (1 vote)
- 5 (2 votes)
Players:
- ADG (Playing as random)
- (Tiberius (Playing as random))
- Buster13 (Playing as Aztec)
- Trip (Playing as random)
- alva848 (Playing as random)
- FrustratedPoet (Playing as 'one of the new Civs')
AI Civs:
- Give your vote!
- 1 for; 2 against
Babarians:
- Give your vote!
- Random (2 vote)
- Standard (1 vote)
Accelerated production:
- Give your vote!
- On (2 votes)
Victory condition:
- Give your vote!
- All on (2 votes)
I vote for:
Max human.players = 5
Map size = Standard
Babarians = Random
Accelerated production ON
Victory condition: All on
If you want to be in this game, PM me, or post here, and I'll update the list.
If the set number of Max human players is reached, the people who "join" afterwards will be set as 'maybe', in case one of the players decides not to play the game. If there's any of those, they will be showed in ()
Tiberius is set as 'maybe', if he's ready when the game starts, he'll be the one, if not...well...then he's not in the game
This game starts ASAP (You'll have to buy PTW ASAP)

Nr. of players?
With or without AI civs? If AI civs, on which difficulty?
Map size? Maybe regular for 8 human civs or big (huge?) for 8 human civs + 4 AI civs
Barbarians?
I'll join as soon as I'll have PTW. Since I preordered it, probably next year

I'm in, playing as random. How do you propose to assign Civs to players? The administrator will have to pick them for the players? Shall we draw electronic straws?
I'm voting for no AI civs. I want to see what it'll be like playing against all humans, especially experienced ones like yourselves. I may have to arrange for a DSL line just to play online...but we'll see.
Otherwise I agree with it all, I'll have my copy as soon as it can be purchased in a store, which should be Monday the 4th around here.
