sorry Sir Ralph I knew you had posted several times before so that earlier message about involvement above had little to do with you...sorry.

I think that it's probably best that we elect our President, and elect all ministers. What positions should we have? It's not like in the C3DG where there are 50+ active people who can fill up all the required ministerial positions quite easily. With only 13 members I know that some will have multiple jobs. So what shall it be?
Here's a few ideas:
President: do we call him Prime Minister, Consul, or what? I think he should appoint a willing member as his Vice-(?).
Armed Forces Commander (AFC) (or we can call him SMC or just Military Commander) . Can appoint a deputy if he so wishes to, and thus can assign that deputy any job that he desires. IN charge of ALL military units.
Foreign Minister Responsible for communications between host civ and other nations, acts as ambassador (or can appoint someone to act as ambassador) to other nations, finalizes trade deals/alliances and or anything else that may fall under the jurisdiction of Foreign Affairs...May not declare war without the majority of all members polled and the President's tying vote. Mostly has to poll the people for decisions, but can outline his own foreign policies.
Culture Ministry I feel that there should be two ministers under this post: 1 to build cities and choose city sites, another 1 person to decide what will be built in those cities in a given time.
Science Advisor Probably the easiest position generally since most of the time will be spent deciding what type of science to allocate science resources towards, and then waiting for research to complete.
I recommend these be the "bones" of our government. Soon we'll have muscles on our skeleton

Is this in opposition to the three schools of tacticians, economists, and diplomats each with a minister (plus a general pres/leader)? That was what we’ve been going with so far. There seems to be a consensus for simplicity (which I agree with). I’d rather not have tons of very particular positions; we want to be a singular machine, not many independent moving parts.

DOH! Sorry guys I didn't sleep much last night, maybe an hour and a half, and then I had a three hour business meeting this morning....thus I totally went braindead on the 3 schools idea. *sorry*
Ok well then lets discuss the three schools some more.
How do we decide what to build and where? Who controls our military units and who is responsible for building roads, irrigation and mines?
So my understand is that each school elects a leader or representative. How much power does that leader have in making decisions?
I hope that there will not be TOO many times we shall need to poll the team. Except for elections and MAJOR decisions like war, etc, then I would hope we could keep polling to a minimum. I like polls, but fear that too many of them can make a game overwhelming and too bereaucratic....

Pirvate forum or something like that would be nice later on when the game starts so our competitors (especially Trip ) wont find out our Machiavellian plans.

What times are convenient for our Euro members on Saturday and Sunday? Later is preferable for me.

At weekends any time is fine for me, given I know it earlier. At weekends I usually go to bed at 2am GMT and get up 10am GMT, the rest of the time I'm available.

My times are the pretty much the same as Sir Ralph's.
As long as you give me a couple of hours notice (by posting something obvious here) I can make it anytime between 9am and midnight British time.

My time is GMT+2, so on saturday around 12:00-21:00 (GMT) is good for me. On sunday around 17:00-21:00, and so are most of the other days.

Can't make an ICQ this weekend myself, but I'll gladly agree to whatever my esteemed collegues determine as being our best course of action....

OK. Let's shoot for 4pm EST Sunday. That should be 9pm GMT.
We could use the Apolyton IRC server (apolyton.net). Channel #TTA. Sound good?

Check out this US government site where you can check the time in each time-zone:
http://www.time.gov/
When it is 4pm Eastern time it should be 7pm Pacific time.
(and yes alva, pm is afternoon/evening)
I'll be there tonight.

NOOOooooo. I live in dread of the Earth stopping and beginning to revolve the other direction.
Please tell me that 4pm EST will still be 1pm PST tomorrow. Please?

What shall we be discussing in our chat?
I suggest we should at least get to the following:
Finalizing a team name
Finalizing government/administration positions
Deciding the roll of our 'scholas' and how they'll fit into our gameplay

All that sounds good Meshelic.
Plus, we should talk about what Civ we want to be.
We don't have to make a decision, but some discussion on the subject would be helpful.

I think a decision should be reached sooner than later over what civ to be. I haven't played PTW yet so I'm not familiar with the traits of those new civs (other than the little bit I've heard as I've been watching the threads), but yes good idea FP we should discuss our civ choice as well today
