I think this is dependent on how many teams there will be. In a 2 team game it would be acceptable to have a few days, but if there are 8 teams any more than 1 day would make the game incredibly slow (8 days for 1 full turn)... maybe 8/(# of teams)? Obviously rounding would be necessary. Maybe each team could have some "swing days", i.e. each team has (for example) 10 days they can use at any point (probably 10 “2 day” turns). This might help the game move a good pace, but still allow for some careful decision-making at important points.
Well it’s just an idea J

I actually think we should log on and play a few turns simultainiously twice every week, if that is possible.

That's what I was thinking until I saw the reports from people trying to play MP.
PBEM probably has fewer bugs than MP simultaneous. Imagine the disaster of a constantly crashing MP demo game, now that’s a logistical nightmare.
(of course there could be new patches by the time we start )

Set up regular days of the week, to play 5 turns or so each time, the two days a week to change every month based upon teams elections.

Do you mean playing a simultaneous game, or a PBEM one?

Houston, We Have a Problem
If 8 teams each take 1 day, and the game only takes 300 turns (it can go for 540), I will take over 6 years.

Our Civ3 Dem game does about 10 turns a week, 5 per turnchat. This thing might not be able to keep up with that pace, but it needs to be somewhere close, or else it's going to become extremely boring.
It needs to be simultaneous and turnless. We need to hope that Fraxis can work out the bugs.
If not, we should do no more than 4 teams, and we should give each team 1 day with the save. That way each team would do 1 move every 4 days (or less). A grand total of turns in the game pass a week, but that's really the fastest we could make it.
Another option: We get together twice a week in separate chat rooms, do a move, post save, do a move, post save, etc, until 2-4 turns have passed. Discuss ideas and poll in the days between this gathering.

I'm certain that on several occasion we are able to do more then one turn a day (weekend??)
If that means not every member in every team is involved, so be it IMO

I agree. Turns by quorum 3/4 or 4/5 can proceed with a turn. the absent party can proxy his vote. gotta keep it running fairly quickly.

With time running out, it seems that 1 day will probably win (thankfully). We don't want this game to go into 2004 or anything.

PBEM? 2 turns per week? How do you expect people to stay interested?
Turn based. 1 or 2 meets per week. 5 to 20 turns per week.
Seriously. PBEM is NOT faster than MP turn based. No matter what the warez kiddies are saying.

No it's not (well, cept for me ), but it appears people don't want to have to invest such a large amount of time in the game. Hopefully, each team will really kick things into gear, and we might even be able to go at the pace of a real PBEM game.

Would it be possible to have 2 saves a day? If a deadline was 2pm EST, then a European would still have at least until 7pm to save it. The other deadline could be 2am EST, and a Californian would have until 11pm.
