It's comments like this that remind us that you seldom have a clue what you're talking about.

Given the ample evidence we have observed I hardly think we needed reminding.

Yeah, but this time, he did it in less than 10,000 words so I actually read it all.

Well, we tried a game or two of ptw, it wasn't that bad, but lots of freeze ups, sometimes units wouldn't move, and you need to get the setting the way you like them. It still doesn't have that exciting feeling at the opening that II has.
More testing will be needed.

YES, that was the last one we tried, It did play better, but we still have to turn off the turn clock. With all the lag, it went way to quickly. Some turns, I was only able to move one unit before it expired. We'd like to play quickly, but that was a bit much

Rah,
You and Ming have been at PTW for over a week at least now. What's the verdict? The best thing since sliced bread (the Civ2MP variety) or christmas turkey?

Actually I've only had a chance to try a couple of duels with War4. So I don't want to form an opinion on insufficient sampling. It showed some promise, but it still didn't have the same buzz of excitement of II. (Like 3 out of the first 4 huts I opened just gave me the locals map. Oh BOY)
We need to try a few different setting before we really have a decent game.

I'll keep an eye open for you. I refuse to leave my icq on all the time since my daughter probably spends more time on-line then I do, so I prefer that she doesn't open any message from my Apolyton brothers. I'm getting a 50 inch widescreen tv delivered this week, so I may need some time to set it up.

I don't think he plans too... which is silly if you ask me. I can understand not wanting that to be the ONLY monitor, but I would set it up so that I could switch between that and a normal monitor as the situation dictates... why waste such a beautiful new toy

New patch...
I played with a guy from England, low ping, new patch...
2 AI, 2 humans.
Things went reasonable well, the lag is alot better, and now I am really interested in trying simul movement or even turnless.
Now it is at least playable, although I wouldn't go Playing the World quite yet... My next test will probably be with more than one player...
P.S. Direct IP connect is there, BUT...
You can connect directly thru the Gamespy Arcade room! The irony of it all...

Oh that's good because now that makeo is gone finbar is the only reliable civ2 player. Deity and Hydey are both hopeless for differing reasons.
I need to find some new online play partners - I'm available more often than those guys. Its probably about time I upgraded my line anyway.

I wouldn't bother yet, the lag is still there, and the "connect by IP" is somewhat of a farce, considering you still have to go thru the Gamespy lobby to do it...

Yes - you are usually not available Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday. Hydey is usually not available Thursday and Saturday. That leaves 1 night a week.

Doesn't anyone strike this is as rather peculiar? A direct IP network option shouldn't pose too much of a problem. Yet again you have to enter via Gamespy.
Seems to me Firaxis/Infogrames has struck a private deal with Gamespy. Either MP via the Gamespy lobby or no MP at all.
