There is also a new Gamespot preview of SimCity. It doens't have any new screenshots as far as I can tell (though one of them I don't recall seeing earlier), but still should be enough for an hour's worth of rest from beating your head on the wall.

Low system requirements (hooray!) because the camera is locked to the four compass points:
Quote:
|
We played SimCity 4 on a notebook with a Pentium III 800MHz processor and GeForce2 graphics. The game was at the maximum visual settings, and it did periodically show some slowdown, particularly with overlays on, but it was very playable. EA expects the minimum required system to realistically be a Pentium III 500MHz system with a 16MB graphics card. One reason the game does have such reasonable performance is that it is locked to a camera that's rotatable around the four compass points and has five zooms. The game's producer noted that having a free camera would have made the requirements three times as demanding.

What about asking to MarkG to create a SimCity 4 section?

A system is old, when games min. requirement is about the same as the system (or higher) (e.g. SimCity 4, Mafia, GTA3, etc...)

I thought it might be time, to make a summary of what's new in CimCity 4 (For those who haven't read the other thread... the information is spread all over):
Let's make a summary, on what I can remember, that's in SimCity 4:
1. The city now has animals (You can choose between different types of animals)
2. Criminals is raised in poor neighboorhoods, while the crime happens in the richer neighboorhoods
2.1. You'll now see small "drawings of where people where killed" (Don't remember what that's called), in the city. Makes it easier to see where the crime happens
3. You will actually be able to follow the sims to/from work/school
4. You can now make neighboor deals, with your other cities, with the new region play
4.1. By building one city, with lots of industri, and no citicens, you can build another city, with a lot of citicens, and make the Sim cross the borders, to the other City, when it's time to goto work
5. In one interview, they mentioned, there will be a multiplayer option, but they didnd't reveal any information about it
6. School only influence the area in where it's built (as opposite as in previously SimCity games)
7. Day/night cyclus: In the morning, the schoolbuses drives the children to school, and people drives to work (giving lots of traffic) (The same thing happens, when they all are going home again from work/school = making lots of traffic)
7.1. You can actually see, it's getting dark in the night... looks awsome
8. Houses don't change each year, they now stay for a long time (= making the city special)
8.1. The graphics on the houses changes over time (3 different styles of graphics for all houses). When it's time to change the style, only new houses will have the new graphics set. Old houses keeps the old look (Making the city even more special)
9. Extremely upgraded graphics
10. The MySims function, makes it possible to put your own Sims in the game. They will then act as a "reporter", who tells about, the problems in the area, they live
11. You can now drive around, as the mayor, in the city. When you drive to a part of town, where everybody hates you, they might start a riot, while if you goto some place, where they love you, they might celebrate
12. Traffic is completely redone
13. When a disaster (riot, tornado, etc) happens, you will have better control over the police/fire cars. You even see those cars, drive from the department(s), to the scene where it happens (Bad road layout = takes more time, to get to the scene)
14. The game is not about making the biggest city in history, but to make the town, as you want it (You might want to build a farm-town, etc.)
15. More control over, what types of industry to build where (= You can choose, if the industry should be agriculture, etc)
16. Lots of other things, I have forgotten all about...

Well... they're planning on releasing it middle January, and I think they have used the last month on finishing/translating the game... Let's hope they don't plan in translating it into Danish

so let me get this straight... we won't be confined to the limmits of one city land scape? Because in the previous 3 instalments I could build a radical city and cover the wholre map and then think, damn.... my city just stops at the edge.

Well... if you have reached the edge (=no more room), then you can't do much more with that city, but your city still lives, since what's in your first city can help your other cities, if they are connected...
That's how I understand it (or did I read your question wrong?)

What you can do - supposedly - is create a huge sprawling city over many screens. Okay they will each have their own budget and mayor, but if you connect them up using road and rail etc then they will share demand. So you could have all your rich high class houses on one screen and the commercial centre they work at miles away as long as the transport links allow them to get there in a comfortable travel time. Alternatively you can treat each screen as a separate village.
Btw, there is a big review in PC Gamer UK this month. It scores 87% with the reviewer basically taking points off becaue he considered it too difficult and not fun to be trying to grow your city slowly and manage all the problems. It seems he can only remember as far back as SC3000 where the early deals made money pretty easy to come by.
He was highly complimentary about the rest of it, so that comes as a great relief.

87% Hah! the simpleton!
So the highways on one city connect to the highways of another city or do they just connect to that city in general? Do the landvalues and police coverage etc at the edge of one city interact and overlap with those of the city next door?

Highways goes directly to the nearby city (if there is no nearby city, then it goes to SimNation)
The question about landvalues/police coverage on the edge, haven't been answered, as far as I know...

Well... if that review'er thought it'll be to diffecult, then I guess he could just have played some kids game instead. SC3K was too easy at the beginning (Not that I'm good at playing it, but I still thought the beginning was too easy...)
