stop buying ptw till fixed
Im a lover of civ3 (I liked alot smac and civ2 too) but what is going on with ptw is simply outragous.
the expansion is bought by most people for the multiplayer .without it no way you could justify the price tag and few would buy it
knowing that firaxis had to make sure this part of the game works yes I expect games to need patchs but there should be no patch needed for the main reasons you bought it for i.e if you bought quack3 for the sp fighting it can have some small grapics problems or unexpected cheats or some mp problems but I expect to be able to shoot who I want with no game getting stuck except by the fault of the hardware
Firaxis should never have taken out a game in this condition knowing good past sid meier products I suspect the problem lies with infogames which probably forced it to take it out too early for a quick buck
we must stop it before it gets worse or infogames will just continue trying to force firaxis in the future to take out products with even worse problems
So stop buying ptw till those who did report completely bug free Mp
let the execs learn the lesson when the sales curve drops not to take out too early a game and let the developers to finish working.hopefully they will learn the lesson and next expansion pacts (and civ4) will be cleaner of bugs and in working condition in all basic features.
If you had enough of this as I did just wait and make them pay with their pockets

I'm afraid it doesn't work that way:
Scenario 1 -
Noone buys PTW
Firaxis stop making loss-making games
Scenario 2 -
Noone buys PTW and signs petition saying they won't buy until it works
ANOther game company release a similar game, everyone buys it instead
Scenario 3 -
Infogrames/Firaxis invest millions creating a game that does everything everyone wants.
Takes 4 years too long.
Everyones playing Elite 4
Whats least likely

If I listened to this advice, I wouldn't be having much fun as I am.
The SP improvements are immense, beyond what a good modder can do.
And Ive played several games of MP without crashes. The problem I have with MP is the other party, it works from my end.
so all I have to say is I'll be enjoying this game while you are waiting.

you are forgetting that civ is a very successful game in (civ1,2,3) a sale drop in one of expansion wont cause game to stop being made immediatly they will first try to understand what went wrong
smac came not too late with what most people wanted and was much less bug free I didnt even think id
need a patch till I heard one came out if it worked 3 years ago it can work today
If another software company thinks it can produce something better let them try .if their is as good (unlike ctp 1,2) as civ 3 and more bug free i will buy it and let competition do what it does in rest of markets i.e force both sides to produce better more problem free products

Well, that's where most of the problems come in. There isn't really any turn-based strategy that can compete with the Civ series. The closest I've seen was the CtP series, but, well, ya know.
If a company were to be able to compete, perhaps the presure would make for higher quality games

You obviously never worked with bean counters before.
BTW, I'm happy with what I got in PTW.

Firaxis has stated that another patch will be out soon which addresses the MP issues. That's good enough for me. Besides, the game works nearly perfect on my LAN so I'm happy ... slap-happy even!
