The use of initials as a shorthand for a widely used phrase dates to approximately the 16th Century. Acronyms are a mainly late 20th Century device.

Karthage had moved some troops into my territory and when I asked why he (Hannibal) said something like:

"Those troops are...uhm...missionarys. Right, theyīre missionarys."

Well, heīs a good liar...not...

I'm not sure if this quote has been posted already:

In one of my games, I was playing as England, and I was the most powerful civ in the world, and I was in negotiations with Persia, and after I clicked "Never mind," Xerxes said, "That's fine. I'm just going to go shoot myself now." Nothing like a suicidal civ leader...

Of course it looks more like the Worker in your screen shot is building a road and not Irrigating. Perhaps Brennus is 'creating future infrastructure' for his empire. :strokes chin:

My guess is that there's another city of his on the otherside that he's trying to connect to his road network, and your backwards cities aren't helping.

I Just got this one from Hannibal:

" I want Celts to hurt! I want their hungry, screaming, battered masses clamoring at my door for mercy! Lincoln, I am going to need your help for this! "

I didn't ask the Celts whut they were doing. I mean, it's free work, dude! Why the hell would I want to turn them back!

Then again I have no idea at all whut he was doing. Maybe he wanted to trade resources with the guy on my other side.

My trade advisor looked at me with a very angry face once and shouted: "I shouldnīt even be here!" Still I donīt understand what she really meant, but I couldnīt do anything but agree. I think I can manage my trading much better than she can...

It's an inside joke, a reference to "Clerks," a hugely popular independent films here in the U.S. that came out several years ago. The main character says several times "I wasn't even supposed to be here today!"
