Official: Northern base location(s).
Hard to decide the best choices with all that fungus, but in the picture below I tried to come up with a whole bunch of possible base locations. If you some among them you like, please indicate them, or write-in.

Three days multichoice.

I go for both bordeaux and yellow. Bordeaux has the energy bonus and yellow takes advantage of the river and high ground. We have space so no need to take squares away from other bases.

i agree with drogue. (except on the overlap thing. a bit of overlap is a good thing)

Write-in:

Next two bases should be on black and just west of the dark blue.

This covers every square with the minimum of overlap.

Adam, I think we don't have to cover each tile (we can simply crawl them) and we also don't have to care with overlap (as the problem starts only at base size of circa 20 and can be easily dealt with the use of specialists).

Crawlers are a possibility, but they're less effective than working a square with a citizen. You in effect sacrifice entirely two of the square's resources. Crawlers before we have the population to work a square are fine, but I hope we won't rely solely on crawlers long-term, given the inefficiencies.
