SMAC MAC: can it multiplay with PC?

Does anyone know if the Mac version of SMAC is compatible with the PC version for multiplayer play? It seems unlikely that it would work in a real-time game, but how about PBEM? Can the two platforms load each others' save game files?

I would think yes. But that just a guess. If not, someone should be able to develop a crack to do so.

Translate save file to text or hex and then reverse on other end. Any hackers out there willing to step up?
