SMAC Movie - who would play who?
(I'm editing as I go along, I gotta check if I'm putting the images in right as I go along...)
I've been thinking about this a little bit... I don't have everyone lined up right, but a few I do.
I have prolly spelled the names wrong... sorry. I'm kinda tired.
1) Lady Deirdre Skye - Courtney Cox
2) Colonel Corazon Santiago - Jenette Goldstein
You prolly don't know her name and I can't find a better picture of her, but she was Vaquez in Aliens.
3) Chairman Sheng-Yi Yang - Pat Morita.
(The one on the right)
Well, I ain't ever seen the film and turns out I was incorrect about who was who...I dunno, it ain't perfect, but he's the first person I could think of.
4) CEO Morgan of the Morganites - Samuel Jackson
He's even wearing the morgan stuff in this picture, save for the glasses and his hair is a little bushy. OTher than that, he's a damn fine morgan, if I do say so myself.
5) Academician Prokor Vakarov - Patrick Stewart
Ok, he's not bald, but give him a wig or something, and make him talk russian-like, and he would be pretty good.
6) Brother Lal - NO CLUE. Can't think of anyone for him, frankly...
7) Sister Mirriam - Julianne Moore
Again, not perfect, but we're not going to find anyone better, I don't think.
So, what do you think of my choices? I ain't getting into smax cuz... well I don't want to.

I like your picks! But I have a hard time imagining Ralph Macchio as Chairman Yang! He's too serene and passive.
Howzabout Roseanne for one of the alien roles? She, more than anyone, resembles an 800 pound gorrilla

Well, I doubt we'll ever find someone who looks like the picture of Yang, ya know? Ain't gonna happen.
I didn't do smax cuz 1) I don't have it and 2) I don't have the time.
In my picks, I looked for a few things - notably star names, and sex appeal. Mirriam in SMAC ain't pretty, but if Moorse was...

It seems that you are mistaken about the identity of Ralph Macchio. In your picture he is the younger guy on the left. The older man at the right is Pat Morita.

In similar past threads on this topic, by general consensus Ben Kingsley (Ghandi) would be Lal

Hmm.
Cool job posting those images. Samuel Jackson's a good pick, and so is the chick from Aliens.
But... Courtney Cox? Pat Morita? Patrick Stewart? Julianne Moore? I think better can be done.
Courtney's pretty, but Deirdre has a mature, motherly quality that Courtney ain't got. Deirdre needs to be somebody like Andie MacDowell, more a woman than a girl.
I've always thought of Yang as George Takei. Funny that neither of us chose a Chinese actor.
Although Kingsley would be an OK Lal, I also think Cliff Curtis would do an excellent job. Though not a household name, most of you probably remember him as the leader of the Iraqi resistance in "Three Kings." His nobility and dignity in that movie are exactly the qualities Lal posesses--or at least, pretends to posess!
Rade Serbedzija is also not a household name, but he'd be a good choice for Provost Zakharov. He has had many great roles in foreign films, and, as you could guess, some really crummy roles in American films. In Before the Rain he was the main character, a photographer who gets caught up in a war; that's a foreign film. In Mighty Joe Young, he was the main bad-guy, a poacher. You wouldn't think much of him from that movie. In Eyes Wide Shut, he was the lecherous costume store owner, also not a great role for him. But he has the accent, and the arrogance, and a certain loose-cannon quality that I think would suit Zak fine.
For Miriam, I can think of many prospects. Sigourney Weaver has the severity, if not the hair color. Glenn Close is a phenomenal actress, but maybe is a bit too sexy. Come to think of it, Glenn could also play Deirdre, which is a testament to her range. And Linda Hunt, too, would be good as Miriam.
I have photos of all these folks--how does one put them up?

Completely ignoring the need to look like the picture (why be limited, really) how about Gary Oldman or Julian Sands for Zakharov? Patrick Stewart looks just so... ethical. These guys will be able to put that evil edge into it.
"That is, by the way, my /medical/ opinion"

Frightening as it may be, I think Christopher Lambert would play a perfect Zakharov. I'm surprised it hadn't been mentioned before, but listen to his voice. The guy's dialect (which I might note, he had trained exclusively for the Highlander film) is perfect. These days, his appearance is pretty appropriate as well, no?

Courteney Cox?! Let's find someone uglier, shall we!
But then pretty much all actresses are ugly these days, so I shouldn't be too hard on you.

I am refusing to post in the ethos of this thread because it has simply not been thought out enough.
I just want to counter Mr. President's comment. What the hell do the girls where you live look like? Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Terry Farrel, Melina Kankadres, Jessica Alba, Clare Forlani and Charisma Carpenter. Stunning, the lot of them.

Hmmmm...lets see
Morgan Freeman for CEO Morgan
Star Trek's Marina Sirtis (troi) for Deirdre
Glenn Close for Sister Miriam
Linda Hamilton for Santiago ( this one's the toughest)
Ben Kingsley, from above, for Lal
Cant think of any actors for Yang
Klaus Kinski for Zakharov with full makeup

Zakharov
Does anyone remember Brent Spiner as the scientist who gets killed in Independence Day? I think he'd make a good Zakharov...
Deirdre needs that motherly quality, yes...I'll have to think about it.

With all those big names, we better have one huge hollywood size budget LOL.
Does anyone think that Mike Ely's AC books would make a great SMAC movie? I think that Centauri Dawn or Twilight of the Mind would make fantastic movies!

The last one, I promise!
And since I heard they were giving the part to Jeri because of her 34FF, I partially stripped for the director.

Whoa, rein in the ego there a little Alynzia...and next time, why not just post a link to the old thread?
Well, I've only had a quick think, but I figure Cate Blanchett would make a pretty damn good Aki Zeta-5. Brent Spiner's a dead ringer for Zakharov, and Jodie Foster with her hair dyed black would fit as Corazon Santiago (can't see it? Use your imagination, people! She's got the right sort of face...)
Besides that, I'm pretty much stuck. I know I've seen people who look just like Miriam and Roze, but can't call them to mind just at the moment. Samuel L Jackson with a wig maybe for Morgan, and how about Sean Bean as Svensgaard? Come to think of it, curl Liv Tyler's hair and you could pass her off as Dee...
Just had a thought...Iain Duncan Smith as Yang

OK, this reply is late, but Alynzia, I haven't seen a lot of those actresses. I'm ready to be corrected any time. I may be getting off-topic, but doesn't Nicole Kidman look like a man to you?
Just for the record, I do like Drew Barrymore, Winona Ryder, and Natalie Portman, but they're all a little too soft for most of the female Alpha Centauri characters.

I have to strongly desagree here. Santiago is of latin decent, nice full lips (Actualy a lot more sexy mouth than Deidre) and Jody Foster, although a great actres, has not the lips for that role.

Good call Lefty. I don't particularly care for her, but I think Jolie would be great. I tend to go on acting ability first, looks second. My choices:
Santiago - Angelina Jolie. Haven't seen much of her, but seems crazy enough to be a great actress, and physically and mentally capable of pulling off the role.
Zakharov - Ian McKellan, played Gandalf in LoTR, and Richard the Third in Richard the Third. An incredible actor.
Morgan - Samuel L. Jackson. Another fine actor who has managed to find the sorts of roles to prove it while still maintaining his place on the A list by playing roles like Shaft.
Lal - Ben Kingsly has shown he has the range to play this role to perfection.
Miriam - A tough role, but my best bet would be Cate Blanchet, and actress who impresses me more with each role she takes.
Deirdre - another tough role to cast, though I am partial to Winona Ryder.
Yang - Somewhat stumped, but I liked Cho Yun Fat in Crouching Tiger. Mature enough, and a solid actor.
Fungus Boy - I'm sure there are plenty of people who can pull off this role, but I like Edward Norton a lot. Perhaps he's gotten too manly / old though.
Domai - Gary Oldman is a master actor, and anyone seeing his portrayal of Zorg in The Fifth Element would have to agree that he could pull off this role very well. Edward Norton wouldn't be a bad choice either.
Sven - Brad Pitt, a pretty boy who can really act.
Marr - I nominate Rosie O'Donnel
Him'nee - Rosanne Barr
Roz - I'm stumped here, though Halle Berre is always worth watching.
Aki-Zeta 5 - This is a good place for any total babe who can act a bit. I choose Milla Jovovich, who fits the bill easily.

SANTIAGO
Though I totally disagree with Jodie Foster for Santiago, SMAC Fanatic, I was only posting my pictures for how I look compared to the people. It would be way too egotistical to expect a lead in a major Hollywood film with only eight years local theatre experience, lol! I apologize.
Anyway, up for corazon Santiago,
Angelina Jolie, Roxann Dawson and Jessica Alba.

Ed, Angelina, Roxann, Jessica and Morgan aren't on this thread, but in case you were wondering what SMAC Fanatic was on about the link is...

Don't visit it. It is old and boring stuff. I put here, on this thread, what I wanted to mention.
I didn't link to it earlier because I figured it would be easier just to display what I was reffering to. How unlogical of me (slaps wrists)

Solution to 'Yang' dilemma
Jet Li as Chairman Yang. Seeing as I crown myself official "know-it-all" of everything Human Hive, I deem it proper to declare Jet Li as suitable for the role of Chairman Sheng-ji Yang.
besides, I REALLY dig the Chairman!
Am I the man? Why...yes, I believe I am!
