I think that you can only disable spells if you have SOD. But, if you want to disable spells in the SOD expansion; you go to: TOOLS/MAP SPECIFICATIONS/SPELLS and de-check certain boxes.
As for adding a day 1 event- go to: TOOLS/MAP SPECIFICATIONS/TIMED EVENTS/ADD
then type an event name and message, and set a day.
That's how you set events!
-
Personally, I prefer high score challenges to MP games... but oh well... I tested it:
-
IF you play as the southern tower; for some reason, the whole map is revealed at the beginning of the game.
Also; I thought that the game was a bit too empty?
As for arena above v. belowground- I don't think it matters- since you already created the map with an underground- I see no reason not to leave it there.
So far, those are my only suggestions
Good luck!

Mattyboy: good idea

Well definitely yes.
I'm a huge HoMM fan and I'm glad to see such a nice community here. Oh and I would support the scen-contest idea
And I believe there would be much to discuss about HoMM:
For example: the advantages and disadvantages of the monsters in the different towns, the different hero-classes, what’s more important: exploration or try to take an enemy out before he gets too powerful,...
So you see an HoMM would be very active and by far more useful than the dinosaur one

Okay andemagne- I tried the new map- and I do think that you should probably add the necropolis and ramapart as other lplayers... they would fill some of the large barren stretches of sea.
Cant find any problems except that the map is too large and that it's pretty empty... although perhaps the Castle has too long to travel to reach its powerup zone.

DC: idea of my map is to get LOTS of troops fast and THEN do combat, and decide how is the best player. not to fill up a map with adventure possibilities. IIRC it takes about 2 weeks for castle (and for other players as well) to gather all the powerups. the game hasn't even started yet then.
ok I'll add necropolis and rampart. but it means less learning stones and trees of knowledge for all...

Why less trees of learning? You have the space?
Hmm... if you didn't want to give powerups- then you could just do an event and gift the players with 50 power, 50 attack, etc.?

there is a limit in number of learning stones and trees of knowledge that can be placed on a map.
I think its 32 for those stones and 24 for those trees.
see, different hero classes develop differently as they gain experience. for example: a knight has 40% to increase attack, 40% to increase defence, 5% to increase power, 5% increase 5% when gaining a level.
as wizards numbers are 5%/5/40%/40%. if you would just give +50 to every thing for every body, that just wouldn't be fair.
on topic:
hmmm, maybe we should have a thread about map making tips & tricks

All you have to do is do specific events for each one.
All you do is create an event bubble and make it do specific helps in each section.
IF you dont' understand, I'll create a demo scenario with the event boxes- but it's really quite easy- I could just give so and so 30033452345 experience on day one in AB through an event... and events are unlimited.

3DO has a forum for Homm. It is not of much value as it is very hard to recall specific maps a year or more later out of the hundreds of maps offtered by Homm.
The MM forum is better as a question can be answered for MM6-8.

Yeah, 3DO's forum is fairly annoying since it's branching thread (or at least it was last time i checked)

NO. Because although I like Heroes 3 and am still playing it (today actually) I thought 4 was a MAJOR disappointment. I liked it as one of the few games to use hexagons in battlemode and they killed that in 4.
