Planetary Pack CD Copy

At the risk of drawing fire from people I have a question. I have purchased the Planetary Pack although I have owned SMAC since it came out.
Tonight I tried to make a copy of the CD-ROM and it failed reading the source CD. I want the copy because I take my CD's around with me so I can play on my work laptop and do not want to risk destroying the original. My SMAC CD copied fine a year ago.
Anyway, has anyone tried to copy the PP CD and have success?

EA has some funky copy protection thing on their disks. I copied SMACX. The burned CD would install everything, but could not make it past the CD check at the beginning of the game. You could try using the SMACX V2 crack, but I don't know that it would work for planetary pack.

P.S. - If you know you wasted money buying the Planetary Pack instead of just SMACX, why did you tell everyone (sorry couldn't help myself).
