Vel, you'll have to join our "Gathering storm" CivGroup in order to get to our private forums. Use the link at the site top. Our team captain (NYE) will approve your joining (may take a couple of hours) and then you'll be listed and able to go to the private forum (and wear our team chevron ).
Theseus: Happy to see you here

Our team's players have a frightening reputation, but fortunately there are many excellent players on the other teams. This should be very very interesting.
It'll be interesting to see how the best SP players (and I don't include myself in that btw) adapt their tactics to an MP game.

Wow... another one to the rescue... great you could make it, Theseus! And alexman too... it won't take long until the others call this unbalancing
(I don't mind )
And FP, you're quite right, MP isn't SP. But in a demogame, everyone's specialty should make sure that we don't forget any aspect of the game... every SP gamer has his weaknesses, if you know your weakness you're likely to be able to circumvent this against AIs. However, when you're playing other people everything changes, as the others aren't predictable... if you're able to assess what the opponent is going to do, winning is easy.

Actually, I'm pretty glad there is a team with so many top notch players. I consider this game is about learning how a multiplayer DG works before we go humiliate CivFanatics
So, seeing the moves of a team with an excellent skill can teach more than a few things to their opponents. It will also teach the team members on how to interact with each other (something really different from pure SP), and what tactics don't work against human opponents.

Nothing is wrong with having friends.
My point is that we are basicly training for the Multi-site PTW MP-DG and we're all just trying to see how certian strageties work in MP. Now you pull in all your Civ III friends to "win at all costs" and make the game unbalanced. This is not how to get ready for the bigger picture. Buy throwing all of Apolyton's strategic geniuses in one team, it throws off the learning curve and makes this entire game pointless.
Additionally, look at the message next to Theseus's Avatar. With a reputation like that, you'd think he would want to join the Glory. But would he have listened to me? Someone he doesn't know anything about? No. You've turned this place of education for the Multi-site game into an American High School, where learning becomes a second or third matter.

Nobody of us, including the "strategy geniuses" how you call them, has a big experience in multiplayer. We might as well miserably fail, because we throw in too many assumptions about the AI and practices, that are valid in SP, but not in MP. And by the way, nobody forced them to join, and if I didn't write them, they might as well have missed the PtWDG, because they almost explusively post in the Strategy forum and not in spam fora like this . (Hey... no offense, I'm also posting here.)

Speculations. Btw, they can't listen to one who doesn't write them. To be honest, yes I invited them, but did in no way expect, that all of them join so quick.

It's not an American Highschool, but the Apolyton University (AU), to be correct. And learning is a first matter for all of us.

Naehhhh. You can have Rommel and Napoleon on your team for all I care, its just a game anyway.
Besides, we have a cooler looking civgroups icon.
This just makes it more likely all of the human teams will gang up to take you out first. And I have to start planning for the split of the Civ3 Demo game and upcoming Civil War? I think I would prefer the Eastern Empire.

Almost missed your post, Spiff (was fixed at donegeal for some reason). I entirely agree with your POV. All we'll learn, no doubt. And if our team does really better than the others (which is far from being certain), I'm very sure that our team members will share their experience for a better purpose (*cough* CFC *cough*).
Nice avatar btw, matches perfectly for your team!

Dongeal, I must respectfully disagree.
Every strategy game....every team effort must have a place of beginning.
Places of beginning imply a non-static condition....one of moving forward....of learning and changing and adapting.
I see nothing wrong with taking those who have spent the most time publically talking about and formalizing Civ3's current "best practices" and using them and the best practices they formalized as our own starting point.
The key phrase though, is *starting point.* We all know that in this new envrionment, many of our old assumptions are going to be challenged, and more than a few will be shattered. That's good. I think I speak for everyone here when I say that it's not something we're afraid of.....that's what happens when you put yourself neck deep in a new situation to learn....you risk the stuff you are already comfortable with.
I think I can safely speak for everyone on the team when I say that if you've got some ideas or observations, post them! Let's add those ideas to the mix and see if we can really come up with something spectacular! As Sir Ralph said though, we can't very well discuss the idea that does not get posted....
Go to the Civ3 Strat forum, and do a search on Vel's Strat Threads, vol. 1-3. When you do, you will find that the entire thread was *built on* the notion of listening to anybody who had an idea and wanted to talk about it. A very different creature than the popularity contest you described.
Just my early morning two cents on the matter.
