Probablility to be completed in next 5 years?
Just wondering... Do you truly think that Dinosaurs has a chance of ever becoming a game?
If so why?
Sid Meier, in an recent CGMagazine interview, expressed interest about redoing XCom or Master of Magic... and made some cryptic remarks about Pirates!, whilst some petitioned him to make a sequel to Antietam!
Why would he return to Dinosaurs?
And how would he make it into a better game... a game that could be viable and sell in today's market... without being a ripoff clone of Civ III and AC?

Probably not with the next few years, perhaps in 5 years but more likely never.

I think it depends on what he was going to try and do with the game. I never understood what they wanted to accomplish and what the game type was going to be. If you read the designer updates, you got the feeling they didn't know either. Each update was just about the complications of choosing RTS or TBS, or evolution game. They just didn't know what to go on.
I think that if Sid or any other company comes up with an idea for a game with dinosaurs that it will be made immediately and be a huge success. People like dinosaurs. We have an obsession with them and all it will take is one good idea and it will be a huge market.

i voted never, but then I never could figure out how they would make the game interesting to play. Dinos are cool, sure, but what do they do?

...Perhaps they could have made a good RTS... But I really can't see Dinosaurs succeeding as a TBS game without being derivative and exactly like Civ or one of the civ-dino adaptations...
Perhaps they should have crafted Dinosaurs like Sim-Life...?

I'd like to see an update of SimEarth. That, of course, is RTS, though, so I don't think Firaxis would touch it.

I never got to play that game when it came out, and now it won't run with me...

Lemmy: Here, some computer stores sell packages of six old SimGames. One of them has SimEarth. Maybe you can find it.

A cool little real-timer like the old game EVO would be nice.

As already mentioned Gettysburg/Antitem were RTS games (although not your classical real time game). In that same sense SimGolf was real time in the same way that a simulation dinosaur game would have been. So I would not think that a SimEarth or SimLife or SimPlanet type game with dinosaurs at the heart of it would have been all that unthinkable for Firaxis to do. Nor do I think a game without that much opportunity for success would have been unthinkable for Sid to do. After all, he did make CPU Bach, a program that created music in the style of Bach and as far as I know, did not sell very well. So I think a dino game may have been possible by Firaxis.

Umm, only on the games that Infogrames publishes and as far as I know, that is done after PTW. Then back to Firaxis' relationship with EA. There they have produced Gettysburg, AC, and SimGolf. Most likely that Firaxis will be heading back to them for future works.

True, Firaxis only dealt with infogreed due to the necessity of the situation. infogreed owns the Civilization brand-name, so they had to work with that publisher if they were to use the name.

Dinos was not definantly going to be an RTS. Sid did mention that a TBS version was one of the three main ones he was partial to.

I haven't yet given up the hope. So I voted several months ago that the Dinosaurs would be seen in 4-5 years, despite my own estimate is even more distant than that.
