X-COM Apocalypse problem with Win2000Pro
Hi,
decided to reinstall this good old classic for some good gaming (while waiting for RoN. )
Well it didn't install.
I just got some error on too low buffer (or somethig).
I then notised that in Win2000 it isnät used anymore as it was in prvious releases. (Cannt be sure if it was buffer, but something that was in Win95 & NT but isn't anymor in Win2000 pro)
So does anyone now a fix for this?

I think a detailed description of the trouble you have run into will help.

Yeah,
sorry for not doing so in the first place.
I just wrote this today as I once by the net remembered it (*) in the hope that someone here would know.
I'm just now away from home for a couple of weeks and don't have the game with me here. I will have to check it once I get back home and remembewr to return with this question.
(*) I have no connection at my own apartment...

From my installation of it (very much earlier this year) I remember that it needed the lines:
files=40
buffers=40
or something similar in the config.sys file. One problem is that this game was written for dos when win95 had only just come out.
If win2k has a config.sys file (should be in c: root directory) then just add those 2 lines to it, and it should work. If not, you would probably need to create a win98/95 boot disk, add the lines to its config.sys and then hopefully be able to play it.

Yeah,
the game needs for files and buffers 20 each.
Problem is that my win2000pro "only" has 40 files and no buffers. (Oh and no copnfig.sys either.)
So what to do??

Try "msconfig" and see if firstly, that runs on a win2k machine, and secondly if it has the section that has the files=40 line. If you can find it, add another line saying buffers=40.
Unfortunately I have no access to a win2k machine, so can't do any actual testing.

I tried to find a msconfig file with no luck.
But thanks for your help anyway - I hope this problem can be solved some way...
