do i install it before or after 4.0 patch?
Does this (installing order) matter at all anyways?

as far as i know, the new patch only deals with compatibility, and so, while i dont think it matters, it's always a good idea to have the 4.0 patch

Put in the fireaxis new patch , can't see that it has done anything, sure hasn't got rid of the Winxp midgame terran.exe crashes, hasn't even got rid of the early at the start warning that I have an unsupported cpu.
I did put it in on top the P-4 patch. May have changed the color of the ocean mining platforms a little or was that p4 ??? Not that I really care.

Check the release dates on the patches. The upgrade/patch rule of thumb is you should install the oldest patch first. Less chance of breaking something.

I installed the 2K/XP patch and I still get the message as well.
I guess SMAC and SMACX are showing their age...

This patch fixed a problem for me. For some reason terran.exe would lock up under XP when the Firaxis screen loaded (right after "your cpu is not supported").
I was running it on XP with a P4.
Curiously I did not have this problem with terranx.
(And yes, I did the AlphaCentauri.ini ForceOldVoxel etc.)

Have you tried hitting the "Numlock" key? I noticed
that I have to do that now under XP.

This patch fixed this sound issue on my PC, WinXP. I have now eax,ds3d=1 and no disturbtions at all. The mining platform and the solar collector changed their look though. they look somehow.. worse they befor.. imho
Does anybody know why this patch overrides datalink help file and some factions .ini profiles. This is annoying since I have a localized version.
Also without a patch i was not able to connect to the TCP/IP game session. Anybody know whether the patch fixes this too?
