If we have a reasonable release date announced on the patch by the time the planned start date rolls around - fine, go ahead and wait for it. Otherwise, we ought to plow forwards and start the game already!

Here's a wild idea: maybe Firaxis would be willing to give a hint as to whether or not there is likely to be much delay if we wait for the patch. No dates or promises; just their best guess.
Also, what are the odds that this next patch will be the last one? With how long a game like this one is likely to be, odds aren't bad that we'll end up changing patches sometime during the course of the game no matter which version we start with.

Firaxis hinted some days ago we'll know the availability of the patch "very soon". It's reasonable to think the patch is in its final stage, and will be released within 2 weeks.
It won't be the last patch, except if the game doesn't sell, since it's only about internet problems. Firaxis is aware there are other gameplay lacks, and will try to adress them if it has the money.

As far as I understand, abstain always mean keeping the status quo (i.e victory of the majority when there is one, and keeping what was here before when there is a draw)
But I guess those who want to wait will disagree

There is no risk of a breakdown, the patch only patches stuff we aren't going to be using. The patch won't affect us and yet people want to wait for it.

VERY interesting idea... set up as VCR, like end of game. That sounds like something (not me ) might be able to come up with a utility for. Maybe we should put that up in the proper forum... Calc

Btw: chances are the euro version will be 1.11(?) anyway, so everyone will have to patch up.

That depends... if the Euro version goes 'gold' before the patch does, then it won't be with the patched version...

I suspect the delays in the Euro version is so that it can be patched when it comes out. Besides if we get the patch we can play the game online and it can go a lot faster that way.

I agree. If the patch really does make MP playable (it had better do) then it'd be possible for the captains to meet up each weekend to get several turns completed very quickly.

Sounds like the new patch is out already, so the question is thankfully moot.

PBEM. It's not usable online without the patch, and we're not going to wait for it.

That's what was voted on a long time ago... perhaps the turnchat can be conducted through some form of online play, but for now I think PBEM will be best to remain with.

And the "Yes" option for waiting for the patch makes a late-game come-back.

I usually only check the last post in a thread for hopes of avoiding a topic that's too old.

Augh, I'm confused...
This is what information I can scrape off the floor of these posts:
1) The patch in question as per this poll was about has come out.
2) We are still playing PBEM.
What relevance does the poll have now? Do I need to vote? What's going to happen if what option succeeds if the poll is not moot?

The poll is now pointless. It should be locked.
