the people of demogyptica
i am the ambassador of demogyptica, the big german demo game... i started a poll there to ask my people if they would like to join this wonderful new game here... my question is now: IF my people would like to start a 6th civ here (and it is not sure that they want) ... what would you say? would it (still) be possible? are we too late? what do you want us to do?
please visit us at http://www.cylusion.com/demogyptica

This game was going to be a test run for Apolyton, and not going to include other sites. Now, that being said, if your members wish to come and get Apolyton accounts, form up a team of five or more, I don't think there would be a problem...

i'm against more teams simply because i'd like to see this game end eventually
but, i mean, they're only germans. they start out strong and then lose big time.
and besides, did you see their start position?

ha. waaaay to easy :P
wish some of that site were in english, it looks pretty awesome

Welcome Borc !
I've once browsed the Demogyptica forum, and I was surprised by the size of the forum (I thought only the international sites like Apolyton and CivFanatics could gather so many posts )
I don't know if you could be allowed in this DemoGame though : at the origin, this Democracy Game has been set up for Apolytonians to train and learn with the upcoming multisite Democracy Game in mind (CivFanatics should be opened to this in several months).
We didn't speak of accepting non-Apolytonians teams as of yet, so I can't answer for now
I'd advice you completely setup a team quickly, i.e you must have
- a name for the team
- a team leader
- at least 5 members
- you know what Civ to play (if you decide this really too late, you should take a Civ that is not currently in use, because this kind of conflict takes some time to resolve)
- a team icon, 15*19 pixels.
The game will start the 1. December, so you have to be quick. Since you have your Forum, we won't have to ask our admin MarkG to create a private, secure forum for you (otherwise you'd have to be ready some time sooner)
This will definitely trigger the discussion on whether we accept you or not (some people aren't happy when they hear about the creation of another team), and will give you better chances to be accepted.
If, for any reason, you're not players in the Apolyton PtW DemoGame, I strongly suggest you do one on your own. It's tons of fun, and teaches much !

I think this certainly would require a poll, and that you'd have to do it "as Aployton members". Personally I wouldn't have a problem with it.
On a side note, another team (or more) is added I'd like to make a movement to get rid of the AI all together, when it was 4 humans and 4 AI, it adds something(1:1 ratio), but 6 humans and 2 AI just means 2 human teams will get an AI to bash on (and get tech, cash, etc) making it more of an unbalancing factor.

BTW the game starts the 1st of Dec., not the 11th I think that was just a typo of Spiffor's, but I don't want you to be confused.

I've never started in such an excelent position. Just shift the settler one square SE to the forest with luxary and that's a very powerful position.

I agree. If we did add a 6th team, I move that we remove the AI. May also want to reduce the map size a little.

Settler is currently on a hill tile.
By moving it one square SE, the hill can be mined for 3 shields a turn.

well, each team we tack on (at a day for each team to have the save) only adds about a year to the game each.
Personally, I would like all teams, Apolytonian or not. The more the merrier, but civ 4 will be out before this game gets to the industrial age.
Just something to think about.

you could move NE to use a river (save $$ for aquaduct) and then have 2 or 3 more cities to the south.
NOTE: that current tile is NOT on a river.

Personally, I am against non-poly teams in our game, but we cannot stop them from getting accounts here and starting one with poly.
Sorry, nothing against you Germans, but we have tried earlier to start a multi-site game and it fizzeled. This is why we started this ... um... educational game.

The only reason it fizzled was for lack of support, and the fact that CFC couldn't join.
If Demogyptica are willing to be as involved and active as those here, I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to join. The more the merrier.
Borc, just make sure you take a look at the Rule Outline thread stickied here, that should give you all the info you need to know.

i am not in the position to make a proposal yet but i am sure that we can find a way to keep the save file only for 4 hours (average!)... i.e. we say we have ~ 500 turns to play and 8 civs and 2 years time to play
2* years * 365 days * 24 hours = 17520 hours total
17520 / 8 civs = 2190 hours for each civ
2190 hours / ~500 turns total = 4,38 hours / turn...
that means every civ starts with ~2000 hours time for ~500 turns... - the faster you send your save file to the next civ (has to be handled by an central server which checks the time every party needs) the more time you have left for critical game phases...
something like 8 chess players with 8 chess clocks...
and no problem to make a poll if the save file is on the way for 32 hours (average! with 8 civs * 4 hours)

There's two reasons why I prefer SE to NE. (Both are river tiles)
1. NE wastes a shielded-grassland.
2. SE is directly on a luxary resource, this allows one more warrior to be sent exploring before you have to keep them for martial law. (This is important on the Emperor level for a non-expansionist civ)

our poll is not finished yet but with 12 yes votes and ~4 no votes we probably will ask you very soon to participate as a new civ...
we will have a secret forum at our own server very soon... we also have no problems with the other rules and game settings you have...
the only thing i miss is which civs already are already taken by the 5 groups?

You can choose any Civ, and if it's the same as one that another team has chosen than it will be randomly decided who gets the civ and who picks a new one.
