And who won't leave in the middle of games to pick up their children!
Seriously though, I think it won't be too had to find people to play, you just have to watch out for the folks who happen to be a tad arrogant and silly.

yes, arrogance is fun for awhile but gets old quick.....like breaking peace treaties like a trickster....
but you learn not to trust those players....
and picking up your kids is better than passing out mid game

Civ II will never die. No other game has the balance, the complexity, the replayability and the excitement. Period. Civ II rocks, and I always come back to this game.
And long live zoners!

Hola compatriots! I just got a computer after a long haitus and snatched up Civ II MGE, find this place and the first thread I look at is "Is it dead"... man you people had me worried. I can't run Civ III on this iMac, and I don't wanna play anything else!! I signed up for ICQ, got Gameranger rolling, found a few CIV places, and, after two weeks, I managed to get a game going with a Swede who dropped out in the first turn. ARGH! I was very dissapointed to see no-one playing Civ II at Gameranger (aka AngstRiddenPreTeenZone) Anyway, NO, it aint dead, let's just all believe that. So, I'm jabby, I suck at Civilization, and I wanna be someones punching bag. All my info's available here, let's get something rolling!! Now to put one of those demented M&M's in here..
There we go.. BYE!

Come to www.zone.com and look under civ II. Many players there, some are good. Most good players don't quit out of games either.

Ok, so I wandered into M$N land, and found my way to the CD games area, here:
http://zone.msn.com/hub_cdromrequired.asp
which showed everything from Age of Empires to X-Wing vs Tie Fighter (well, the right half of the names anyway, I guess using Explorer -and- going to a M$ site is double chance of screwing up) but no CIV II.. went from Asheron's Call to Combat Flight Simulator alphabetically. I take it I was in the wrong place then.. man this was simpler when the hottest game was Trade Wars at 9600 bps!
Hey at least there were no columbia house pop-ups evry time you changed a thread in Fidonet! Uh-oh, I think that 'old and grumpy' thing starts at 29...

YOU have to click on the civ2 game link, even though it is not supported by the zone anymore

I don't mean to be difficult, but there's no Civ2 link there, man. I can search the page for "civ" and get one hit, and that's inside a different game's description. If the link I posted last time aint the right place then I'll humbly eat my pay-less shoes, but there just aint squat there. I mean no big deal, I must be in the wrong place if they support Civ2 or not, but I checked the place out, looked up down and sideways and saw nothing of the sort. I aint worried about it, I'd like to hook up with a game whether it's on the Zone, GameRanger, or wherever. But hey, If I'm mistaken, please oh ye of ample experience, pointeth ye the right road..

you may need to dl files from the zone, no biggie and the software crap they have, again no big deal.....

Golly.. wish I'd looked at the system requirements before trying to DL the software though.. no macs allowed. So this is what being a minority is like.

there were (and may still be) many fine zoners, but the childish quitting and whining was (may be) far greater than typically found here

All the best players came from the zone. The zone has always been the best place for games and always will be. The game is dead now and has been for some time, it's hard to find a game anywhere but the zone is by far the easiest. Pure Apolytoners have always been known for being lesser players.

Civ2 will never die!
Unless you're talking about really far in the future when there are much better games made by organic computer using sid's dna.
And I think both camps have produced their share of greats over the years... there was a time the zone had ****.

now your lucky to see 30 players even on a weekend.....everytime i stroll by i c around 10-18 people there.....
i remember the days of Kaak being in room 5.....and the title stating "i live here" and he did for many days, not losing to anyone who challenged him..... i still remeber the day he was beaten and a guy put a new slogan on room 5 "kaak used to live here"
rivalries were huge back then.....so was "weird" game play too though
