IP numbers are also a tool used for chasing DL's, but that's nothing new or special. It's used with all major BBS softwares out there.

the majority of people dont have static ip's. so lots of people tend to come to the site from similar ranges of ip's...

Furthermore, there are quite some people who frequently log onto Apolyton from different IPs: home, work, school, public PCs et cetera.

And then there are programmes to spoof your IP address or even sites to redirect you and therefore hide your real IP.

Yeah... but IP's are only "ONE" of the ways we catch DL's... there are MANY more

I was going to post a link to one of the more obvious DLs that have already been banned (like one of the ones with 'Ming' in their name), but unfortunately banned members no longer appear in the members list.

Hmmm... sounds like a restriction is called for then...
It's kind of like those cop shows... you know... the ones where the crooks are stupid, and always end up being fooled into confessing instead of keeping their mouth shut and asking for a lawyer.

But no one ever elaborates on those
Do you have text comparison software and stuff? Or is that too high tech? I guess posting times and frequency is a clue if it goes on for long enough.

No... he was banned because he shares muliptle IP's with you... hadn't posted in over a year... and only during your last restriction... and didn't post after a year until you got restricted this time...

Well of course he shares IP numbers with me Ming- I use a dial up sometimes
You think there's 200 million people down here? We all get the same numbers. It means NOTHING
If I used DL whilst banned do you really believe you would find them so easily? Can you say proxy server?

Good taste? Presumably he's Australian isn't he?
All I know is I got a cranky PM from someone called Rimmer saying he'd been banned because of me. I forwarded it to Ming.

Suit yourself - I don't really care about Rimmer
I did what I could for the sad git.
I certainly couldn't be arsed testifying for someone, whoever, whatever - maybe Rimmer is a DL, not mine though
Maybe I should start a rumour that you are my DL NYE
Maybe you are

Did it ever happen that someone signed a message sent by his DL with his own name by accident
like Rimmer posts a messagese like this:
------------------------------------------
bla bla bla troll troll bla bla
horsie
------------------------------------------
that's like making a phonecall to your school like:
------------------------------------------
Hi,
this is my father speaking!
My son is ill today and won't show up
greetings
------------------------------------------
