Bah, of course they patch it when my DSL is down. /me curses the odds that destroyed his modem that relied on a specific program and setting.

Oh. I was hoping the Famous Replay bug would be the one where the replay never works. I sure would like to see some of my replays but they never play. Only really short games play some of the time.

Woo!
Still slightly laggey in some parts, but just played a Turnless 4 player regicide game and it worked! It was never unplayable and the pace was actually pretty fast. So it looks like this patch is good news. Definitely download it.

damn I guess I'll have to download the patch and try it now.
How long do you guys games last? I don't want to get involved in too long of a game.
I wish there were better ways to accelerate things. It'd be cool to start off with industrial, middle age, or modern age units and just play capture the flag from there.

That's not a bug.
That a FEATURE.
You need to wait for some time, until replay gets loaded.
And that can be sometimes a long time.

do you think this patch will already be included in the UK version? i mean they did push back the release date so maybe they quickly included it.

MP is more stable, but how about for a dial up connection? I hate to try it out and just lag a whole session for other players...
Is dial up playable, or is this strictly high speed territory?

It is playable, but lag is still a factor for dial-up. I played 2 others (they had cable) and myself on dial-up for well over 2 hours.
I guess it depends on the patience of the broadband players.

I wonder exactly how many patches will come out before PTW becomes available in Australia? Though I am glad that it didn't come out before my final exams at uni or I wouldn't have got any studying done. Hang on, I didn't get any studying done anyway!
Oh well...

At the Civ3 front page DanQ quoted some guy:
Quote:
|
[It] adds some nice single-player features [--] [..] [n]ew civs, units and victory conditions [with] lots of multiplayer modes [--] [..] but the multiplayer leaves much to be desired. [..] It would seem, then, that the decision to purchase this expansion should be based on whether or not you think the single-player additions to the game are worth it... the multiplayer additions are not.
|
Hmm, does this patch fix all of this?
I don't wanna get dissapointed either. Losing my faith now...

Here is the link to the rest of it. I think it says something about the patch too:

The latest patch fixes nearly all of the major MP issues that people have. It works. Yes, there are still some bugs, but assuming you have a decent internet connection, it works pretty well.
There seems to be an issue with the patch and some of the European versions, Infogrames probably changed the copy protection on the disk and didn't bother to inform Firaxis.

Good news warpstorm...
But if I'm not gonna play much MP, it's worth the money or not?

brianshapiro: If you are looking for an illegal patch (aka crack) this is not the page you should look at. All illegal activites are banned from here. If you need a path because you own the game, and the copy protection mechanism doesn't let you play any way than you should contact the publisher Infogrames and ask them for a solution.

Glad to see a bunch of fixes in the singleplayer, but it would be nice if they did a few things for developers. As I have been working on WWII mods and stuff, I notice that it still lacks much to create a good senario. Still can't designate diplomacy, no setting to reveal the whole map, ect. (although flat maps are now possible). Also would be nice if they update the civ3 site along with the corperate site. Some stupid people (me, for example) check the game site reguraly and first and the coperate site every so often. Of course, that kind of makes sense. But I still want to give out a huge thanks to Firaxis for creating a cool game and not just dumping it to the public and going back to their offices (aka, the truck with the motor running). Nice to see some companies support thier products.

Off the subject
This is the third thread I've read today, and the constant "moral high ground" the editors of this site take crack me up.
"Illegal activities are banned from this site" (or something like that. was just mentioned. Now all I have to do is look down these forum lists and the little pictures people use for their ideas. I bet over 90% are copyrighted Material. Now what gives?
So quite being so hypocritical. All call a spade a spade.
