Now all I have to do is look down these forum lists and the little pictures people use for their ideas. I bet over 90% are copyrighted Material. Now what gives?
|
i'm unsure what you mean by "little pictures that people use for their ideas" but if we recieve a complaint by someone about something on the site, we'll act on it. until then, it's hard to control everything that's posted on the forums. on the other hand, warez-related threads are usually very easy to be spotted

I'm talking about the picture you use for your User ID.
IE, MING, that picture that is beside / under or someway associated with your name. Those pics. I'm betting it is a copyrighted image.
I'm not complaining about it, I could care less, I'm complaining about how the moderators take this "moral high ground" about copying files and stuff like that. (don't get me wrong I totally agree with it). But to come down so harshly on some, when at the same time you let people scan pretty much what they like and use it as an image associated with thier name. Hypocritical.
But I don't know where the images come from - so I"m only betting that some or most are copyrighted images.

Even if there is copyrighted materials in some avatars, so what? I think there is a reasonable argument of 'fair use". Avatars are not for profit, and in some cases there is comment and/or criticism that can be inferred from their use. Therefore, in my non-expert opinion, avatar images used by the members here are exempt from copyright protection.
Images on the website are another matter though

Many people I can see uses these Jap-cartoon avatars.
Well, those are in fact copyright in the artist name or coop.
Since the internet is a kinda nonregulated cut and paste community not protected by harsh legislatures,
I don't see a problem...
- except for those Jap-cartoon pics being pretty ugly.

Uninstall the patch? Get a crack? Sue infogrames for locking you out of the game? Not much you CAN do.

Hmmm
It specifically says that 1.14f is not for use with anything other than the US version of the game. I guess if you are European then you have a Euro copy. (This statement is should on the Civ3 web-site.)
I understand that a lot of ppl are happy with this however sitting in Europe without a patched game is pants.
I also understand the business constraints of developing patches fpr the largest playing community first (e.g. the US) but it has still made my Christmas a little less fun.
A useful addition to the next patch would be the version that poeple are running being displayed in the game forum. (Like Cossacks for example.)

Here is another link: www.civ3.de
If you got an English-euro-version (as in European store shelves)
you have to download a less known version of the 1.14f patch.
This works fine!
What an awfully complicated mess!

hi ,
that does not work , ....
and the best you can do is to get a US copy , that one rocks , the european UK version and the US version are two different things , the UK version seems to have some problems with the new patch
have a nice day

It is also available from http://www.civ3.com/en/
I bought the Engligh UK version from amazon.co.uk and this patch upgrades it to 1.14f. Simultaneous turns multiplayer gameplay is a little slower compared to what everyone is used to in single player mode, but it's quite stable - and fun! Been playing it for 4 days now.
A free piece of advice: play with people you know. It's frustrating, when people drop and you never find them again.
Also I'm not happy with the multiplayer lobby. There is no organization there and no moderation.
