Vanishing Improvements
OK, I'll admit I was tired when this happened and I didn't document things very well, but I do have turnsaves available. Here's what happened...
I was playing my standard deity-raging-medium game, going to AC. Played as an isolationist democracy (well, isolation except for trade of course). Got my techs through Laser, then converted to Happy Soft Fundy for cashflow as I built freights for SS parts.
Of course, by the time I launched, all civs were at war with me. But I decided to just play defense and returned to Happy Democracy for WLTPD in the final years. That's when it got weird.
In many cities, improvements were no longer there, especially happy stuff like temples. I though maybe I was just confused and had never bought them (but I always buy Temples!). I also noticed a couple of Size 10 cities with no Acqueducts. Hmm, I thought.
Then, when I went to the build list, the missing city improvements were not listed.
Improvements not in city (+)
Improvements not avaialable to build.
HOW COULD THIS BE?
Totally weirded me out. Is this something that's totally normal that I just never experienced (or never noticed) before? (I fully admit this as a viable possible explanation.)
BTW, this is MGE for Mac, up-to-date patches, no rules mods.
I humbly seek the enlightenment of the forum.

Mac shenanigans or memory monkeyshine? Did the number of improvements change in your trade advisor window?

Stray -- Thanx for posting. You lead me believe this is definitely weird and not a known effect. somehow, that's comforting.
I'm gonna look at the saves over the weekend. All I know is, when I went from Fundy (soft) to Demo, it was all weird.
I also want to check to see if I lost only the listing n the city box, or if I also lost the effect. I think the fact that the items were unavailable to re-acquire may mean that I lost no functionality, only the listing.
I should have saves from each year...

OK, I think I've determined it's just a glitch, and almost certainly just display-related.
Loaded 1899 (Fundy) and listed improvements in the first 8 cities as a sample. Notable were:
Aystings -- bank
Cherbourg -- Harbour
Chartres -- Courthouse, Aqueduct, Bank factory
Dijon -- aqueduct, mass Transit, Factory, Harbour, Offshore, Sewage
Yet in 1894-1898, these cities had the same improvements as above, plus...
Aystings -- Temple, Marketplace, Library, City Walls
Cherbourg -- Granary, Temple, marketplace, aqueduct
Chartres -- Granary, Temple, Marketplace, library
Dijon -- Temple, marketplace, library, Courthouse...
Added evidence -- no difference in happiness levels despite missing temple and Marketplace in many cities.
Final evidence -- I loaded 1897 and played a turn. 1898 was a normal continuation, with the same happiness levels as in the freak-out version.
So i guess I just spent an eventing in Bizarro Civ World. No harm, no foul.
Just very weird...

I ran into vanishing SDI defenses a loooong time ago. I'd be attacked one turn and the nuke was defeated. Next turn came around and my city would get hit again - this time with no SDI. Not pleasant.
It happened with at least 3 different cities - not all in the same turn so it wasn't just a one-offer.
Probably pre-CiC though...

Lol, he didn't tell us, but some of this items in his house also disappeared that night, and reappeared in strange places.

Ming ... are you sure you don't come from Liverpool?
That kind of talk sounds like a DL for the Gits

"Bizarro Civ World" = Friday at Ming's? @ Hydey. Good one!
Hmm. I wonder which universe has Ming's residence in Liverpool?
If Gits drank beer instead of wine, it would be a perfect match. Although personally, I'm flexible on this issue...

Yes I remember some civ wierdness -- had the famous 255 in production once or twice. The sad news is that that computer was not long for the world...
I'd take your civ wierdness as a similar clue -- and since it is the holiday season....
