IMO, you take this on to hard, Ming. We paid now about 80 dollars for a game we still can not play the way we want to (multiplayer that is). As said before I understand the rules and that you do not want these links published on this board but some understanding of what people try to achieve here is in place. Mind you, we BOUGHT this software and can not play it because it is protected!!!!! Those who did not buy it are hardly stopped by these so called protection methods and are having fun playing the game. I get really p***dd off by that thought.
I can fully understand that people who paid for the software feel betrayed by now and solve it any way they can. Isn't it strange that hackers are able to solve it quickly while a response of the supplier that sells so called legal software (and I sincerely doubt it is at this moment. On the box it says: MULTIPLAYER) does not even take the time to respond in a decent manner.

I totally understand how some people feel. But that doesn't change the fact that by allowing such links, it leaves Apolyton open to legal action that could very well close down this site. And while that isn't very likely, it could happen. I think the owners of this site have the right to make rules that keep THEIR site safe from such actions.
So "taking it too hard"
Nahhh... just enforcing the established rules that help keep this site open and free to all of us

Ming: Yeah... saying "But I know that among the apolyton admins the "spirit of the law" phrase is an unknown phrase." is really polite...
|
You really want to claim that line is not polite?
I'm truly shocked!
You want me to speak to you in the 'thy-form' as well from now on?
But be honest, did Firaxis / Infrogames in the past contact 'poly, and gave it some benefits to 'poly and asks in return to not do this and this and that?
In that case I can completely understand your position on this. But just be honest about that.
that's ok with me, I think Markos and Dan (and you) deserve those benefits.......

To be honest... NO. There is no "DEAL" between Firaxis and Apolyton. If you have noticed, occasionally some of the "other" Civ sites have gotten information before Apolyton has... In addition, if such a "deal" was in place, you wouldn't be able to find ANY Firaxis bashing on this site... and if you look (and not too hard) you will find plenty of it. Granted, we do try to limit it to a few threads, and we delete the total crap rantings and ravings (like we do on most subjects) but that's just to maintain order in the forums... but there is still more than enough negative stuff posted here about the game and company. If such a deal were in place, one might say we are doing a terrible job on our end
Apolyton is just like any other fan site... Firaxis realizes the value such sites offer them, and Apolyton likes to stay on good terms with Firaxis.
But what we are talking about here is promoting/facilitating illegal actions.
Any gaming company could begin legal action against Apolyton for allowing and helping people use their software illegally (even though I doubt this would happen)... while one might question who would win, just the threat of legal action is enough to close down a site like this. This is a hobby site, not a professional commercial site with deep pockets. The management has every right to protect their site.

Can we get back to the topic of this thread .
Infogrames UK has mailed one of us that "indeed the patch does not work and a repair will be out shortly". According to Infogrames Germany shortly means December 3. And Infogrames Benelux........ have not heard from them since last Thursday when I called and mailed them.
Anyway, good news for those who do not yet have the no-cd crack because the links were taken out (this is a joke Ming ).

If people want to search for it and use it... that's their personal decision, and Apolyton can't be held accountable for it

Good for you. "nice comments to mr. Ming" sounds like a very bad idea.

oh no, they were really nice and polite!
Just a little bit of rambling about how I spend €500 on civ games but can't play the expansion pack, and how Ming refused to posts links here so I could fix my expensive legal bought game etc.
truly nice words from my side!

pherhaps someone read it before I trashed it
Ming already feels like I have a vendetta against him.
the guy does not deserve that!
he might lose some sleep.
He's just very enslaved to the letter of the law.

I hope a few of us are online on the chat with Firaxis this evening to foreward the problem so that the people responsable at Firaxis OR Infogrames get some pressure. What do you think

Why not go back to where you bought it? Maybe it isn't logical with software, but with other products you just go back and complain to the one who sold it, so why not in this case? By doing that the company who sold it will get a lot of complaints and will complain themselves to Infogrames/Firaxis. I think that will put more pressure on them.....
By the way Cyber, here is Sint Nicolaas:

I felt forced to use the solution offered to me by ........ It works great and am happy now. Thanks ......
I learned a lot in this whole process about solutions and I can tell you, I will not buy so called "legal software" anymore before I am 100% sure that it works as advertised. Will save me a lot of money and that all thanks to the Firaxis/Infogrames combination (and to be honest earlier experience with craptivision... or was it activision?).
If it is good software I will keep buying it, though. I want those companies to stay alive. As for the others........
