Disappearing Faction?

Hi all...I'm new to the forum with a question. I'm playing a SMACX game
right now, and last turn an enemy faction I was at war with just
disappeared. All of their cities, everything! I restored the autosave and
replayed the turn to watch for any messages, but there were none and it
happened again! Is there an in-game reason for a faction to completely
vanish like that?

Sadly, this is a well-known bug. At least it wasn't your faction that disappeared - that happened to me once. You end up with a few colony pods and a few of your units in some random place on the board. It really sucked donkeys.
