I just won my first Cultural game!!
PTW/5 Civs/Regent/Full Random Civs & Map/Small Map/Future Age Scenario
AI Civs:
Mongolia
Arabia
Korea
Carthage
I draw Russia and on first turn switch to Democracy and quickly attack my nearest neighbor, Arabia and win Riflemen vs Guerilla and wipe them out. I have Alum, Uranium, Oil, Coal and Rubber on my continent..so I quickly settle it all and become the most powerful nation right from the get go. I turned off SS and Diplo wins, and I wanted a Domination win bad. Korea, my only true threat throughout the game, remained on my good side and we were trading and RoPn back and forth. They remained Gracious practically the whole game.
I built just about every wonder I possibly could, but I missed on a few of them but managed most of the 5 cpt wonders(Sistine, Great Library) and quite a few others. Korea was against Carthage and Mongolia in a 1v2 situation, so I figured I'd help him out. I move my massive stacks of MA/MI and Marines down to Carthage. Korea isn't losing any ground but the pressure is heavy on them. In two turns, I wipe out 6 of the 7 cities with my MA/MI and fortify my Marines in the towns that I have conquered. The next turn, I destroy Carthage and look to Mongolia. During the Carthage Raid, I conquer 3 more wonders and poach the empty land with Settlers.
I move transports(3 of them) filled to the gills with Marines and take out Mongolia's coastal cities and work inward, wiping them off one island, taking each city as I go, and two turns later, Mongolia is dead.
The rest of the game I was just trying to build up Culture to assimilate Korea's border cities. I took two, but no more. I only built one ICBM in the whole game and Korea wanted an MPP/RoP even though no other civs were left. Yes I could've defeated Korea but I knew he had nukes thanks to my Spy and his battleships and destroyers were patrolling inside my borders, so I tried to be peaceful. So the game drags a little bit as I build and rush every improvement imaginable and at 1985, I won a Cultural Victory. I was so psyched. And now, I have won every way possible in Civ 3

Congratulations, you have reached the end of the internet. Huh ?
Nah, the only thing is: it took you so long to get that kind of victory ? I think most of us have turned the option off, because it is so easy to archieve.

How many culture points do you need to win? I thought it was 100,000. But in my current game, I'm at 110,000 and still no win.
BTW, this info is not in either manual or the civilopedia! Maddening!
And yes, Culture Victory is turned on.

congratulations!
You have to be 2x larger culturally IIRC to trigger the victory as well as above the 100k threshold
edit: i meant 2x larger culturally than the number 2 civ

Correct! Either (1) 20k culture in one city, or (2) at least 100k culture AND at least double the culture of the nearest civ.
And congratulations, Knightblade

Congrats!
I think culture was the first way I won. Sometimes I am sad because I win by domination or culture before I can finish my master plan.
One time I built my spaceship and won, then reloaded the last turn and delayed the spaceship, and won culturally. So I had two wins on the same turns, with the same points in my Hall of Fame.

Grats!
just won a cultural victory too with my Egyptians, in 2046 )
was a long and fun game, pity all those civs kept on warring on me, preventing me to remain in Democracy... stayed in Communism way too long, but oh well )
oh that was in Monarch mode, 28h played
with my usual settings:
Monarch, huge map, 6 opponent civs, no diplomatic win, no space race win (won a couple of those already, and it's very frustrating - was much better in Civ2), all the rest random (even my own civ is random)

Cultural victory is a strange one since the easiest way to do it is through warfare and domination of your neighbors. More cities= more population=more culture. Cultural victories are harder for a builder to achieve (at least at monarch and up). I think I've only won two culture victories, one 20K city at regent and one where I was forced to obliterate my neighbors because of their constant incursions into my ethnic homeland

So you play PTW with still only AI civs?
Hm, maybe now it is time for you to start playing against REAL opponents....

It would be stupid to miss out the AI improvements in PTW because one only plays MP.
Myself i enjoy playing SP and comparing games with friends more than MP in most TBS games.

Thanks everyone.
I mostly stay in Regent with default rules, and just today won a Domination victory. I think I'll move up to Emperor in my next game and begin there. I tried MPn a few games, it was long, then got the out of synch message
But the cultural win only took about 90 mins and the Domination victory today was a little over an hour with 6 civs on a tiny map.
I ran through the Celts then the Mongols and achieved Domination. It was strange though because when I won it, I seemed to only have 1/3 of the landmass but all of my cities were in the high teens to low 20s...oh well

I was also very upset indeed when I won a conquest game and got no movie! I even thought the movie not showing was a bug!
Hey, Firaxis! Shame on you! CTP II has great cinematics - opening and ending game!!
Here, we play for 50+ hours just to see a still screen!!!
I WANT A DECENT VICTORY MOVIE!!! NOW!!!
Hehehe... Sorry. Talking more seriously now...
I think that would be a nice touch to a incredibly time consuming game like Civ3 to have nice ending movies, along with the great openings (Civ3 & PTW) and the great space race victory movie. Just my two cents!
