Second computer or Scouse Gits hut/special finder
As many of you know, Scouse Gits and others in the strat forum have found ways to practically predict everything in the game.....while i applaud them for the achievements, i loathe them and others for destroying out game ...... j/k
its great to break apart the game, and dissect it......BUT i see major problems in the MP arena ....and now somehow the opening is not as "chancey" as it once was.
i know this program isn't perfect in identifying everything....YET...but soon it will predict all....
so although a load up on another computer is obviously better as you can predict everything, this is pretty close to the same thing.....
is it something that takes the fun out of the game, or is it simply a new twist in strategy in a game which has evolved so much over the last four years of play?
comments, suggestions, feedback????

We've always know the hut and special pattern. The only difference is now, you can do it with one hut location instead of three... plus, when your drunk... it's a tad easier

yes, but when it will predict specials.....then i think you may as well peak at the map, and know ahead of time where you optimal city locations are?
we are in dangerous territory...... if you can predict a special with accuracy....the fun is gone
and i don't want to hear, well don't use it , cuz if others are , then of course i have to use it

It can only predict where the special is, and the seed being used. If it could predict the terrain, WHICH IT CAN'T, then I might agree with you. but the terrain is what determines what the special is, and no program can predict that yet. sure you will know what seed it is, and what the options of what it could be... but that's it.
Again... no more than you can do right now... it's just easier, faster and isn't subject to the "beer" effect

I used it a bit this weekend, only to chase several huts right off the beach in a nice blue ocean square.
But it helps a bit, but I know where I am going to explore by looking/clicking on the terrain, rather than using the hut finding program.
Predicting specials is not what's important compared to getting a sett and a defender to said special.
Discovery is key, but not at the price of cheating (2nd computer).
Once a program is made to unblack the black, then we can stick a fork in this great game.

It does take a little bit of time to get used to. I found myself using it once right at the beginning but then not again for about 15 turns since I was doing it inbetween turns and the turns move quick early So the beer factor still played into it.
Everyone knew the hut pattern, but we need to see fewer. And almost everyone was aware of the special bands. We just couldn't recoganize whether the next set left or right was a 3 or 4 special pattern. And with shield grasslands, it still doesn't tell you everying.
This still doesn't take the guesswork out if you don't see a hut in the opening or in the first couple of turns. You're guessing which way, north or south is the closest band. Even without this, if you saw a hut, you knew the band was close.
So I don't see this having much impact except for it slowing down the opening of MP games. So I hope everyone tries their best to minimize any delays.

I won't use it during my turn, even if it "might" cost me a chance to find a hut.
I think the time factor is key early in the game, I won't waste my time or other's time by dicking around black clicking the hell out of the map on MY turn.
Later I can do a little more 'cause the turns are longer, and you can try and develop a clearer picture on what is going on.
I just hope that newer players don't start depending on it, which will make their turns REALLY long...

I think most of the "cheats" do the same thing, as does analyzing the game to death.
As far as huts, their location isn't that tough to track, but the question of whether to open still gives me pause to this day.
Too many free techs that just blow my plans to Hell.

War, there is lot of relevant discussion in the "Predictability: good or bad thread" in the strat forum........I feel the same way.........I would rather the things that should be random were random. But that's not the way it is, and once Pandora's box is prised open...........well, you know the rest.

Nahhh... he says he "retired" from Civ II mp... but he's coming back
We look forward to his return (dead meat is always nice in games)
Add it to the rules that the program is ok as long as YOU DON'T SLOW UP PLAY BY USING IT...
