New Blood?
With all the problems Civ3:PTW is having, it might be an opportunity to try to draw some new blood over to SMAC.
You can still find SMAC CD's (usually jewel case only) at lots of computer stores around, and priced at about five bucks. Seeing as how multiplayer is tried and true on this game, it's an attractive alternative for all those dejected Civ3 fans that can't play online.
Maybe we should start trolling the PTW forums for new converts...

It is not a bad idea. It would be good to have some more visitors and followers of the truth...

Is that £10 each, or for both of them together?

Trolling the CIV3 forums will get you banned quicker than saying "Ming is a bastard"!

Firaxis shouldn't have pushed their luck.

Think positive. We're not saying how much Firaxis sucks. We're just pointing how wonderful they could possibly be by pointing out the omnipotence of SMAC versus the impotence of Civ 3. Think happy thoughts.

To give Civ3 the credit it deserves, it did have some very good ideas to go in. Sadly, the implementation was rather poor.
Ideas that I liked a lot were:
Resource trading.
Cultural expansion of city harvest squares.
Dissenters - makes conquest realistically difficult.
If SMAX had this, it would really make the game very sophisticated indeed.
Although that having been said, of course, SMAX is far above Civ3 in terms of maturity and implementation.

What do you hate about resource trading? I think it adds a bit of depth to the overall strategy of the game.
Of course, in a futuristic, alien environment, I'm not sure which strategic resources you could come up with, but I think it might be something to consider if they ever do SMAC-2

Think of the resources in the Lalande variant in Test of Time.
