Corporate Cronies sliped parasite software into PtW.
I installed DirectX 8.1 to play PtW and aparently the net company that runs a portal called Xupiter.com snuck a parisite spy program that sneaks extra pop-ups, ruins my security, and gives me more junk mail. I try to delete it but windows won't let me. Capitalist bast@rds.

I love Capitalism because it is the only system that works.
You might want to try another capitalist invention called Ad-aware?

The Soviet Union's adoption of communism and the subsequent rapid industrialization of that country suggests otherwise.

Uh huh, and can you still point to that example today? Is the Soviet Union alive today? From the way I see it, you just been debunked. Capitalism is the only system that works pal. Live with it.
Anyways... Odin, it is most likely spyware... and ad-aware could be the program to remove it.

I have doubts that PtW is the source of your problems, but either way I use a program called SpyBot Search & Destroy v1-1. It's pretty good at killing things on my computer that shouldn't be there and are there against my wishes. I don't know if Xupiter.com crap is checked for, but chances are good that it is. Good Luck.

Like communism, the phone is down the drain.
A better analogy would be that you're talking on a Nokia just fine and suddenly someone from Samsung comes over, grabs the phone out of your hand, throws it on the ground and smashes it.

You have to remember that the cold war was costing the Soviet Union something in the region of half of its GCP by the time it collapsed. Its hard to maintain an economic structure working under that strain. No-one disputes that Capitalism is abetter wealth creator than any other economic system but left in isolation a command lead economy can also work.
I vaguelly recall having this argument before so to save time and effort, I'll conceed the argument now but I do have a valid point.

Administration and poor budgeting were the SU's main problems in later years. Communism has never failed as an economic plan when applied appropriately. China, India, Iran, Cuba, and others, have all benefitted from central planning and government involvment in enterprise, to varying degrees.

The PRC is communist? Since when? I thought it ditched those ideals in the 80s?

Yup but I was talking about the circumstances the USSR was running under. And the only point I made was that if the two systems were put up against each other, capitalism would win by far.

Countries like North Korea really have benefitted from having a Centrally planned economy.
Face it, Capitalism is way better than communism.
Anyways BACK TO THE TOPIC...

That's saying communism doesn't work at all. Nothing comparative about it.
Communism does work, if left to its own devices. When it is being thwarted by external idealogical foes like the U.S. did to the U.S.S.R., then it runs into trouble.

Shouldn't this be in the CivIII-PtW forum?
Well, then, we wouldn't get to hear Fez's wonderful arguing skills...
-OT-
Capitalism and Communism, in my opinion, are evenly matched. When cold war pressure is put on them, communism might strain, which is why I only evenly matched the two. Completely isolated, Communism is better. Besides, the USSR was not completely truly "Communism". Do you know all the under-the-table swag the leaders were getting?!?
Eh, I'll guess we will have to wonder which is better, until we get the Great Alliance gov't form.

Industrialization in the SU and PRC were achieved only with great human cost (famine in USSR, Great Leap Forward in PRC)

I don't think it is PtW. I think it was from Apolyton (there is a thread on the Community section about it). Ad-Aware will get rid of it.

Well all of this tarted when I installed Ptw, I was,t able to get online then so it couldent of been a 'Poly download. Has this happened to anyone else?
Fez, quit threadjacking. I think this kind of things should be illegal, but the corperations keeps saying its violates freedon of speech. Ads cant be banned, corporations spying on net surfing habits should be banned.

Odin, chill. Fez WAS the first one to offer a suggestion to your problem. While yes, he did make an opener for thread-jacking, it was others that helped take it from there. They've all already been warned by Ming, so just thank Fez, me, and MarkG for the suggestions and just move on...

Well Odin, I had some spyware on my computer once. I ICQed Che and he was able to help me figure out the problem and get it off my computer. Probably best to ICQ one of the people here who are good with computers and have them walk you through it.

I downloaded Spy-bot and zaped the crap, thanks. I also found 20 spyware programs on my computer, WTF! NOW I AM PISSED! This BS should be ILLEGAL.

Odin, the first time I used SpyBot S&D on my computer, I was shocked and mortified to see over 100 different pieces of unwelcome crap hidden in there! Now I use it everytime I turn off my computer (erm...just before I do) 'cause it kills unwanted cookies too (haven't had any trouble with the Apolyton cookie, I should note). Glad to hear the program worked for you.

One thing you can do is to install ZoneAlarm. Then when a spyware program wants to call home, you get a chance to intervene and zap the sucker.

You need the sept 34, 2002 update version of Ad Aware to wash Xupiter. All the downloads I have seen for adware are the June 15, 2002 version, which you must then update to the sept 24, 2002 version..
