Is it a requirement to hate Civ3 to post on this forum? I personally like it a lot, and I'm still looking forward to RON a lot.

CIV toppled itself.. kinda like the Roman Empire, with SMAC being Constantinople.

But my point is that RoN is not going to eat into sales of Civ III because in most cases they have already happened. So then what do people mean about RoN toppling Civ. The game has already made a good portion of its profits and received great reviews - how does a game like that get toppled?

I think that RoN will sell better than Civ3. Then again even a mediocre RTS will sell better than a great TBS game in today's market. (Not that I think RoN will be mediocre. I think it'll be great.)

I'm sorry Huang, you can say it over and over, but you won't convince those of us who like Civ3 that it sucks. My opinion is that it's the best of the Civ series (sorry, BR, but that's my opinion, and I've played them all (a lot)).
I do think RoN will be very good in a fast play sort of way. In many ways it's not even in the same genre.

Well, I certainly hope it's better than any game out there when it comes out otherwise it will be a rip off like Civ3 is. I think SMAX is better than Civ3. MOO3 better damn well be the best one yet, because they owe me

Huang, you trying to get a rise out of people?
About sales numbers, do we have any good estimates for Civ III?

This is a hybrid rts, like a tbs.
I have trust in Brian Reynolds. I think he was the driving force behind SMAC. I think this will be a very good game.

Brian Reynolds was the driving force behind SMAC, CIv2, and Colonization. I'm sure he'll make an enjoyable game.

I will purchase the game, but will probably only play it occassionally after the initial feverish weekend of playing. RTS just have never kept my attention compared to TBS, perhaps this game will be different.

now I have to say that tbs suck. Have any of you ever been wiped out in one turn in civ 2 by nukes and parratroopers? With tbs you don't have any time to react, while in rts you can launch counterattacks.

The same could be said about RTS. One person quickly rushes another without that person having time to build up enough defenses, army, etc. and the game is quickly over. It is all in how you play the game and how you look at the problem.

No, not in hundreds of games. Although I've taken a few cities by this technique.

Huang, he gave an extreme case so I responded with one. However, the rushing in RTS happens a lot more often than the situation he described in a TBS.
Don't get me wrong, I like RTS (currently playing AoM after beating WC3 sp) but there are strengths to both types of games. To say one sucks on a very extreme case is wrong, when there are obvious faults in the other that are not that extreme.
