Trying to create a scenario
Hello!
I am trying to create a WW2 scenario for PTW. But there is a huge problem, I cannot place any units or cities in my editor. And if you cannot do that, you cannot create a scenario . If any ''Civ-expert'' is willing to help me, he or she will be my new hero

I don't think it can be done with the current editor. I'm stuck with the same quadry with the Civil War scenario I'm trying to do.

The funniest thing with this is that Firaxis has not added a proper editor. If they choosed to have a good editor like the one in Age of Empires 2 they would get a huge scenario/modding community for theire game. I really hope they will release a better editor soon. Thinking about writing a letter to them and tell them what they should do.

I don't know, but that may come out later, in a newer version. Following the footsteps like Civ II, one must wait for all that new technology to be actually useful.
That's Civilization!
Welcome aboard!
It's a freaky adventure, just not an adventure, but a journey, and if one talks real nice and can sell it, it may become reality! It's the way the real world works!
Following the footsteps of previous versions of Civilization, the computer game.
Must keep it around for a few years, as some people just got done with Civ II, after hearing that a new Civilization game was in town.
Add some spice to your life!
Follow tradition!
Smiley goes here!

It's like an old well-fitted shoe, that is fun to wear!
Do you think that MOO III will have an editor in it?
Well!
Think of something else perhaps, the game may be enhanced - in the future.
Please, Sid, Pretty Please!
You not only get a game, but you get a life with Civilization III.
Really!
Yes!
Really!
What do you think that PTW really means?
Well, only if they had some Culture and better technology running this World, perhaps! Maybe even Saddam and politicians would play and Terrorists!
Think they will!
Well, they should, shouldn't they!
It would keep them busy for the next few years!
Afghanistan?
N. Korea?
Well, back to the game, its more fun!

You need to select an "active player" to place the units and cities. This can be generic like "Player 1" or specific like "Rome." To set the active player, go to Map->Set Active Player or press Space or click the toolbar button that looks like a shield. Once you have an active player, you will be able to place units and cities. Any unit or city placed will "belong" to the active player.
Edit: I should point out that this functionality is not new to PTW; it was added in the 1.29f patch for Civ3.

I think it's kind of funny (or sad) how the so called 'experts' jump in and say "you can't do that" and "Firaxis should have included a better editor" and "blah, blah, blah" when the answer is in the manual.
RTFM!!!!!
Thanks to Mike B. for clearing this up.

My appoligies to Firaxis! The editor is perfect, since my English is not so good I couldn't understand the manual. My fault.
Once again thank you!

Was Mike's solution really in the manual? I don't recall reading about it....
Anyhow... I'm glad the option is indeed available!

It's not in the manual, but it is in the help for the editor and the toolbars and menus have the options labeled with tooltips and status bar readouts (although to be honest it could be spelled out a little better that you have set an active player to turn these options on).

Re: Re: Re: Trying to create a scenario
It is, right click a city, select 'edit' or 'properties' (not sure, something like that). Then select the City tab to edit name, population, culture, and any improvemets/wonders.

Mike stole my thunder.
I ran across how to add cities when I would test out some of the new terrain and see how it would look. I would see under terrain properties about adding a colony. I couldn't figure out how to add one. After messing with it awhile I figured out that you had to set the the player or civ first. If you add a city though, you can add a generic town , city, etc. But I haven't figured out how to add a specific Population yet.

Right-click on the city. Select Properties from the pop-up menu. It'll bring this screen up.

I have been reading these threads for several months now and have been playing CIVIII and PTW for a good while. I have found the people here extremely knowledgeable about how to maximize the experience of this game. Mike Breitkreutz making an appearance is a huge compliment to some pretty committed Game Players. Don't underestimate the importance of a Head Programmer reading your comments and suggestions. Think before you ask...You might just get it!!
