Faction editor question
Is it possible to import a picture of your own when creating a new faction? If so, how is this accomplished?

You will have to create a modified faction graphics file {factionname}.pcx. If you copy one of the other factions and swap the pictures around, you can do this!

But if you really want to make a custom faction, my advice is stay away from the Faction Editor altogether. It is still very buggy. Editing the faction's text file is the way to go. You can even screw up some of the existing factions if you load and save them in the faction editor. Stay away from that thing.
