I don't know if "thrilling" is the word I would use to describe the use of PB's, but they sure can help level the playing field in multiplayer games should they last that long. Don't you think I would be kinda "thriling" to blast your arch nemises capital with five special projects in it right off the map?

I think PB's are counter-productive. A few x-needlejets can annhilate a city just as easily, cost fewer minerals, and have much less severe penalties.

A lot of the power of PBs comes from psychological fear. In a game recently posted up around here, somebody was up against the Hive and was on the verge of defeat because the Hive had a finished PB somewhere, and was expected to use it sometime soon.

The same damage might be causable with nerve gas choppers, but that requires coordination of an attack force, and is not guaranteed to success and widespread destruction.

Generally I don't use PBs at all because they have a bad effect on the terrain. I like land bases a lot and I'll only ever nuke something on high ground or if I have the solar shade up and running. I have been known to nuke sea bases, though, especially if they're the last base of a faction and I genuinely cannot be arsed to go take care of it with my Poisontongue Shard Dragonfly chopper squads.

Allie Cove...

After beating (let's say) Miriam to oblivion, she is usually left with a miserable size 2-3 "He walked on water" little base on deep waters near the North or South Chironian Pole with only a 1-3-1 unit to guard it (usually not).

Don't you think a PB would be an extravagant way to put an end to her faction ?

Just sent a simple foil to finish the job...

Usually by that time, I'm trying for a high score by Transcending or other type of victory. Either way, my formers and most of my cities are usually automated or put on impossibly long build queues to keep them out of my hair.

A Planet Buster is the way to go! Nuke that nasty little third world faction and turn away! The ultimate in Fire N Forget tactics!

Yippee!

Fire N Forget!!!!!!

Fire the PB and forget the other factions' response!!!

Not a good idea if you have Hive one side and Spartans the other.....

Well I'm very happy to say that half of that problem never happens to me.

Well, I like building dozens of planet busters and spread them to my bases around the world. Then one beautiful turn...KABOOM!!!. A simple, costly, but effective tactic (well, not if enemy has many missile defense systems). When you do this...the world will be left only smoldering ruins...but only thing that matters...is that you are victorious.
