Has Anyone Played Age of Mythology?
Sorry guys for posting this here, but I figure if I can benefit from someone's experience / insights regarding this game I would like to hear them.

I am a die hard Civ fan, and feel that turn-based games are much more my speed, but Age of Mythology is the first Real Time Strategy game that has piqued my interest.

In the past, I've tried some other RTS games but found them too chaotic...

Can anyone share their thoughts?

Thanks

Is it an expansion for the Age of Empires series?

Hmm... I've played all the AOE games except that one, then. I got a little burned out on it after a while.

I bought Empire Earth a while back, but never really sat down and played it for very long.

Actually, a sequel. Civ3 is a sequel to Civ2, and PtW is an exansion for Civ3. AoM is not an expansion, as it is completely new and standalone.

Technically its not an expansion......but it isn't exactly innovative. Still if you like AOE/AOK you will want to get the latest incarnation.

I think that gaming model has been beat to death. There were two expansions to AOE (that I recall), and then you had Empire Earth. Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds (and the subsequent Clone Campaigns expansion) pretty much ran on the same engine. Now AOM...

I'm wondering if Rise of Nations is going to be all that different. So far, we've already got half a dozen RTS games that look pretty much identical. I'm NOT going to bother with AOM.

Well its the age old argument of what to do with successful franchises. Sequels are as inevitable as death and taxes; you can try and change them, or you can just provide an update within the subgenre. Either way some people will not be happy.

I think civ3 is ok, maybe even good, but I would rather have had a civ2 update than a remake as it turned out.

Why does nobody move this thread to the "other games" forum?

Why? Does it bother you so much to see it here?

I have played the demo and found it to be basically similar to Age of Empires in gamepplay, but it uses fantasy units mixed with historical units.

So, if you love fantasy stuff like cenataurs and unicorns and like RTS games, you will like it.

It isn't any less chaotic than most other RTS games though.

Try the demo here

oh,

I think that age of mythology is a fabulous addition to the RTS genre and the AOE series as a whole because it creates a whole new world of fantasy for those who are interested in that.

Of course if you don't like Mythology or fantasy setting and such, there is NO reason to play the game.

But I thank the makers for giving another alternative to Warcraft for those who love the fantasy realm of RTS games.

That's all AOM is

AoM is not an expansion of AoK. It's a completely new game based on a new 3d engine. I didn't like the idea of mythology units in the beginning, but the game is extremely well balanced and highly addictive.
In short: this to me is the best game of the last two years.

No, it's an whole new game in the Age of Empires Series, only it isn't called Age of Empires anymore, but Age of Mythology. Although it is the new game in the serie, AoM is the successor of AoE I and not of AoE II: tAoK.
