Less square Terrain mod! Help Needed
Anyone,
Is someone interested in working with me in a project to make the CTP2 terrains (specially beaches) less square?
I can do the graphics but i wish i had someone to help me insert the graphics in the tile file, test it and if possible (i can do this on my own if not) help me with the connection of two tiles!

I guess ive done more of that importing graphics than is good for me, so a little more wont hurt.
Will you be making beach graphics from the very beginning?

I cant really sea the benefits in less you are opening beach tiles up to both boats and land units. The squares show exactly where you can move with this mod it could mislead the player into thinking he can get a unit across.

This is true. In the Civ3 beach tiles i converted so far, the beach sometimes comes out alot into the sea, into its particular tile, roughly 75% beach most of the time, so it would be more practical to have only ground units able to move on beach. Depends on the look though.

Yes but I thick it would be good to allow subs to torpedo any beaches with lots of enemies on them could be fun too.
Any way I have been thinking what if we only make 4 new tiles these beaches would go directly horizontal or vertical. We could then use slc to stop any more then 50% of the units on the tile being sea or land it would allow for sea against land battles.
(Which are already possible thanks to the underwater tunnels.)

which are rather idiotic though.
how are those units INSIDE the tunnel able to interact in any way with those units ABOVE the tunnel?
the only way would be dropping waterbombs (if you already have them) on the tunnel from above which for sure should destroy that tunnel and every unit inside.
for all other aspects units above and inside the tunnel shouldn't even notice each other even if on the same tile.
but of course airplanes should be able to fly over a tile without getting to combat with all non AA-Units there as well...
crappy game ...
EDIT: spelling

I dont really like the idea of sea units engaging in full combat with land units, isnt bombarding the same thing? I mean a tank can hardly do anything other than bombard into sea, same for a battleship onto land.

Ship to land unit in the early game would be appropriate.
Later on land units could sneak up on a ship and take control (must add to the prize mod ).

I was expecting more notable change but i still believe it is an improvement. I am still going to fix the quality of the grphic which has lowered a bit (Try not to look to the plains it is not going to change any way. But over all what you guys think of the roundness. Dot be shy to complain

It will be hard but yes. That corners wasnt supose to be in the picture. They will look like the west corner of the peninsula. since they are the same picture in the tile file. So dont worry about that.
I will take care of the blurry for sure. As i said this first draft was focused in the rounding and not in the quality of the graphic.
What i did at first was modify a screenshot and make the rounding to make the tile to tile connection. The blurry will be removed by cut and past graphics of the original terrain. But your beachs do look better than mine. So i will probably use them.
For the most curious I will from the screenshots i will cut 98 x 72 gaphics to add in the tile file

But you gotta keep in mind that it is the graphic that is leading me to make the terrain and not the other way around. So i cant be sure of nothing.

Good job. Have you looked at the way Civ3 does beaches? It not only rounds it off it also stretches some parts into penisulas (sp?). If you have the time to smooth out more, you might want to add some beach cliffs, or (very) small islands off coast. Maq said he copied a lot of the civ3 beach tiles, I can post some too if interested.

The trouble with the civ3 beaches is that they dont show enough water. Over half of the tile is covered by beach on most occaisions so it doesnt look right for sea units to move onto it. Although there are some that use very little beach on the edge.

This is harder than i imagened since i cant make changes in the neighbor land tiles. I will try to come up with a solution other the increasing the terrain size of the tile too much otherwise the annoying thing that happens to Civ3 as reported by Big Mc and Maq happens with CTP2
