Patch confusion!
Hi all, I`ve noticed some confusing things about PTW to do with the patch. Is the 1.14f patch needed by everyone? Poeple keep asking for peeps running this version only to join their games, @ Civ3.com they say this patch is only for the American version and not for the European one.
Anyway, what the score with the patches... Plz... thnx alot Bigtool

You can get the English-language European patch from http://www.infogrames.de/productpage.php?productID=218#. I'm surprised http://www.infogrames.co.uk hasn't got it.

Geeze, the whole community is peices. Most games don`t work due to patch conflitcs. There are ways of makeing this work. I think it may be a question of weather they want to fix these issues at all. Why did they release a game that worked so poorly???

You can do so, yes. As long as your version wasn't bought from a web shop with its warehouse in the US, or your version is localized, I don't think you'll get any problems using the European patch!

There is however, an English-language and a German-language patch European patch available. Make sure you get the correct one!

I have the English language, but I'm in Europe.
When I install the patch I'm being denied when I start the game.

So... the right patch for the european english version is located where???

Why was it necessary to make the european version different from the US version? Why bother to make it more difficult to make patches for the european version.... ?? I just don't understand these people sometimes...

And if there is a european patch out there, why isn't it on civ3.com?? can someone alert those guys??

happy holidays everyone.....

You can get it at civ3.de, under the pathes section and Euro-English part of that page.

That is a question as old as the patches themselves, I suppose... It's just like that.

Good question. I've wondered on that too... I do think that they've been alerted already, several times.

This is a mess, but Firaxis had nothing to do with it.

They didn't even know that Infogrames had released a European version with a different copy protection scheme until the complaints came in. Infogrames is in charge of copy protection and distribution and apparently never told them that they changed the CP scheme.

In addition, civ3.com is run by Infogrames, not Firaxis. Telling Firaxis that it is out of date won't do much good.

So I load up Civilization 3: Play the World, bought in the UK. It's ostensibly identical to the American version--talk of recycling "centers" rather than centres, Shakespeare's "Theater," etc. Yet, when one downloads the US version patch and applies it to the English language European edition it makes the game unplayable. Maybe Infogrames did make the European and American versions different but couldn't be bothered changing the spellings--although I doubt this. I suspect they are actually probably 99 per cent identical.

Infogrames would also do very well to look at a dictionary. In Britain, spellings with -ize are (academically speaking) not only acceptable, but preferrable to spellings with -ise (thus "civilization" is quite acceptable in Britain). Changing a few z's to s's does not constitute localization. The "British" version of civ3.com is a joke. This whole patch business is a joke. Play The World is a joke (although I did still buy it, oops), and Infogrames are a joke. Unfortunately I can't seem to be able to bring myself to laugh.

The copy protection is a joke too...

When I have bought a copy I can legally make as many backups
as I want. But Infogrames had to be difficult with their customers.
And cause a lot of trouble with the distobution...

That statement is rediculous. All games are copy-protected. so singling out Infogrames makes no sense.

Of the approximately 25-30 games I bought in the last year only one had absolutely no copy protection on it (Hearts of Iron).

If infogrames is responsible for distributing the game,
they should take on the distibutor responsibility seriously.

Now they released it two months too late in certain parts of Europe,
with no info about the only patch that works there.
Instead of making one copy prot. for the enitre world,
they had to do it the hard way and did not notify Firaxis in time.

So we can find our patch on a Deutsche-webseite www.civ3.de , downloadable for those who understand german download instructions.
(Luckily, I my Norsk-language is a little bit similar to German)

So I finally made it, and can play with da bugs...

HoI doesn't have copy protection? Didn't know that. BTW, do you like it? It's on my list to Santa at least!

But, 25-30 games a year?! Holy sh*t! You're crazy!

Do I like it. Yes. The simple litmus test on whether you'd like it is, "Did you like EU"? It reminds me very much of EU in WW2. Sure there are differences, but that's the overall feel.

Yes, I'm crazy. That didn't include the console games (but they have rental so I don't buy more than 5 or 6 of these for myself).

They say you can't take it with you, so I'm gonna spend it here.

Why, of course I liked EU! And even more EU2! WW2 is fun as well. My parents has got the message!

Console games too... Boy, how much do you actually earn?
