Somebody help me...
Should I get an external CD-R for my laptop, or an X-box?
I can't decide and it's making my head hurt.

What do you want to do with it, as there is a lot of difference between the two, and CD-R should be much cheaper if it serves your purpose.

Well I have a lot of MP3 and WMA files - as well as South Park episodes which I could burn if I got a CD-R.
But I can get an X-box with 2 games for just £9 more.
At the moment I'm thinking X-box...

Isn't external CD-R much cheaper? Besides.. you need games and all to use xbox, and the cost too much. So you'd need CD-R anyway to burn new games to xbox.
At the cost of one xbox game, you can get cd-r, yes?
Get BOTH!

Do you also have a desktop except for the laptop? (for games)
if yes I'd say buy the cd-r and start burning the mp3s
if not and you want to play games, x-box
i recently got a cd-r and i found it relatively useless except for my mp3s... which were fewer than yours
also it helps if you borrow a cd from someone

In my house there are 2 desktops - one is really old and crappy, the other is my brothers and his room is a biohazard area.
He does have a CD-R though...

I'd get the X-Box because in the future ALL computers will be able to burn cds AT LEAST! If you got an external cd-r how long would you be able to use it for? honestly!

all you need is a cable to connect the 2 PCs.

Normally I would recommend a internal CD-R as they go as low as $45 US ($40 Euros). But since you are asking for external ones I will direct you to a site:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...roperty&DEPA=1
I suggest getting the $199 US drive there... it actually has two drives, making it very useful.
Or if that is not what you are looking for, I suggest getting that Iomega once it gets back in stock.
Edit: Here is a link for external Iomega drives:
http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/ProdCD...RW-IOMEGA.hmx?

Why buy just a cd-r when for £9 more, you can get both?
Its a no-brainer. X Box.

You would have to be mentally defficient to get an external CD burner over the current Xbox deals in the UK.

since Asher is here
Does X-box have any good RPG's for it yet? I'm talking adult ones not kiddies stuff. By adult I don't mean nudity, just serious plot and violence and stuff.

I don't follow RPGs because I don't care for them.
There's games like Crimson Sea which are action-RPGs. Morrowind. And some others.
The Xbox is not an RPG console. If you want an RPG, you might as well pick up a D&D kit and a PS2

No. There are only a handful in the works and they're more along the lines of PC RPG's than console ones. It's one of the reasons I'll be buying a PS2 instead of an Xbox. I love me some RPGs...

What are any videogames for, Asher? Are you playing Splinter Cell to hone your infiltration skills? All games are about escaping reality...

The vast majority of console RPGs suck royal ass.
Let's go collect things and watch CGI movies.
Wooohooo, sounds like fun, sign me up.

Not every console RPG is a CGI fest. I hate that style as well, but it is hardly the norm for non-Square RPG's. There have been some excellent console RPGs released in recent years, if you care to look for them. I doubt you do, however. It's easier to dismiss something you don't know about...

Zelda was okay, I don't understand the insane ratings they get though.
There are no doubt good console RPGs out there, it's just that all of the really popular ones these days tend to suck ass.
Square's in particular.

I'm also not fond of Square's RPGs. Just don't like the gameplay at all. However Baldur's Gate series is up there with my favourite games. The story is great and it's told within the game instead of through FMVs. That is why I hate games like MGS2.
It's not really about escaping reality, as my reality is great, I don't need to get away from it.
Most console RPGs are just press X on enemy and repeat thousands of times. It just gets dull fast and the story is usually linear.

I don't believe that... CD-R getting standard?? noway, even a 3d card isn't standard at the moment (and you gotta have that to play games)

That's why i just luuuuuuve the Baldur's gate saga: Do whatever you want, there's tons of character classes, assignments, adventures, monsters, locations, discussion and hard boiled action,... it's just so damn good!
Though Morrowind is better for complete freedom, most other RPGs have a certain storyline you have to follow one way or another, but I know few that just depend on clicking the enemy and doing the same thing over and over again... But that's Pc, not console

It's not about escaping reality, it's about haing fun, whacking opponents, bribing, being a badass or being generous whenever you please, not to escape reality... reality is okay, why would i escape it

CD burners will certainly be standard pretty soon.
The Floppy Drive is biting the dust in 2003 officially, people need an easy physical medium to save to for portability...
CD burners are also pretty cheap to make now.
