Apolyton fixed my PC
Thanks to the new parasite detector, my addled old PC is now skipping around like a spring lamb, and all those nasty conflicts I was constantly getting are dead.
Top job. Award yourselves a mince pie.

Don't worry, all that Japanese porn will soon slow it down again.

Is there a special reason you said Japanese as opposed to any other kind of porn?

Yeah IIRC correctly LATG specified Japanese porn as an interest in his sole post in the OT econo-thread.

Nope, enabled him to blame Apolyton for the preponderance of Asian porn on the home computer.

It did a good thing for me too. I am visiting family and logged on Poly to see what's going on. The site warned me so I checked the system out with Ad-aware. It detected over 160 components!
So long...

I've been lucky so far -- no parasites to date.

Which reminds me, I really should give my computer a virus check at some point, it is due for a good cleaning, both physically and software-wise...

Do you actually bother cleaning it? Isn't there a danger is disturbing dust that damages some important component?

Cleaning the dust from your computer can actually be good. Dust in your comp's fans will cause the fans to die sooner, and prevents them from reaching their maximum rpm, so they don't remove as much heat from your case. I generally vacuum the fans, get rid of the dust sitting on the bottom of the case, and any other dust I can move by blowing on it.
As long as you do this while the case isn't plugged into the wall and you don't hit any of the cards inside your computer, it is fairly safe.
