About forum
2 people working on StP website:
will there be our ownforum (not at apolyton.net?)
Maybe I'm wrong, but there is no such feature I want (personal wish, but I think that this could be quite useful): receiving forum posts by email.
I want to get all posts from StP forum in my mailbox...
So i personally prefer something like yahoo groups

I certainly hope so, and I expect it to. There was one on the FreeAC website, and it worked pretty well for swapping ideas, and worked better than just one forum on such a large site.

What software did the FreeAC forums use? It sounds like a fine idea to me to have the messages sent to your mailbox. Perhaps a mailing list would be best. YahooGroups I would avoid though.
Also, I don't think the website will be finished in time for Christmas (perhaps it will) but I think it would be easy enough to set up a forum or mailing list on the new site in time for Christmas. That way we can start getting everyone moved over and stuff.

Kurilka,
I assume you're refering to the upcoming Stella Polaris Forums. Anyway, the forums will up as soon as it will be possible. However no date set yet.

FreeAC Forums was using Invision Board. However SPF won't be running it. But I won't reveal everything yet.

Are there any SPDT guidelines and why aren't they posted for the public?

So Ras, will the Poly StP foums become redundant? Or will it become a PR based forum?
The last thing I'd like to see is anyone thinking that StP has died

JB,
what guidelines?
RB,
this forum won't become redundant. It's going to be just like before, so it's role won't change.

Well, the forums can be compared to a mailing list. But there's some else also being planned, but that's still inside my head as an idea. However the forums will come for certain.

Well, compared...
I'm reading emails online (not so fast connection is not very good...), but for forums I must open browser, go to apolyton.net, check every half an hour for new messages... Usability and reaction speed suffers...
Just MHO.

guidlines, such as rules and regulations. Protocols etc.
Just for someone who needs it. cause it might cause some chaos if someone were to do something and didn't know that it was Iligeal. Just a suggestion.

OK, but what about Wiki support for the G.O.D.? It may be nice addition for the StP site, BTW...

You see, some people write long, interesting and involving posts, and I think it must be preserved for future generations. Here wiki approach may be handy.

However it won't be that useful for GOD as it won't be on the website. Maybe the online documentation...

Rasbelin, did you ever read GNU GPL? If so, why the open source project is meant to be partialy secret ("StPDT eyes only"). This is bad habit, BTW, please explain.

It's not secret information. GOD is a collection of information that is visble on the forums too, so it doesn't include any secret information. Also notice that GNU GPL doesn't mention anything about having to publish all the docs related to the designing of the game. Every project has documents and other notes that aren't published because their value to the public is low. The sam goes for GOD. It only makes it easier for the developers to work on the project. If someone who's not involved in the project reads the GOD, he/she would most likely wonder what's this all about as it's not that much of a book with clear instructions. It's simply a guideline.

OK, but free sharing of the source may imply free sharing of any docs etc. Any docs are usualy covered by GNU Free Documentation Licence, BTW. In fact, while closing G.O.D. for "third-party" people isn't direct sin against opensource, it's unusual and possible bad habit. I really fond of opensource software (my 30Gb HDD is now 97% full worth of it ), download/compile/use it, and most of this projects (almost any, can't remember opposite examples) have their docs either on the site or included with distribution (or both). If you dare to create game with broad user basis, wide porting, much of mods/plugins/addons you must share much of information with your would-be users (and possible co-developers).
So I firmly suggest you read "Cathedral and Bazaar", "Magic Cauldron" and "Hackers revenge" (and possible others), The Book of open source savvy. It is here:
