South Dakota Poly Meet!
Everyone:
I'll be waiting to see all my fellow 'Poly denizens at that Prairie Junction truck stop north of Sioux Falls on Interstate 29! C'mon on down! We can have a breakfast of sausage, pancakes and chocolate milk!
When's a good date for everyone to meet on the Great Plains in good old South Dakota?

It's flat, mostly, at least east of the Missouri River. The further north you go of Sioux Falls, the more obvious the former glacial terrain becomes. All lush and green now, but the moraines are obvious (and big, in many cases, forming valleys).
Where were you heading, Chegitz? The Black Hills?

We were coming back from Oregon. South Dakota was just in the way. I don't remember much except a glimpse of the badlands off to the south and lots and lots of wheat and soy.

Chegitz:
I'd hope you would remember crossing that vast, mighty river known as the Missouri. In addition to wheat and soybean fields, we also have ... drum roll, please ... corn fields! And a nuclear bomber base!
Our biggest city is Sioux Falls: 120,000 people and counting!

It took me six hours to get from Brum to Bristol the other week (less than a two hour car ride).
Two of those were taken up getting from my friend's house to Birmingham New Street, since the local train broke down after one stop...

The other week I had to be in Birmingham for about 10.30am. The first train from York to Birmingham on a Sunday doesn't get in until about 2pm, so I had to go via Manchester... engineering works meant it took two hours just to get there... then another 2 hours to Birmingham, and then the local train wasn't running so I had to catch a "replacement bus service". Left York 7am, arrived University of Birmingham 11.45am. Bleh.

5 hours with the Trojan Rocksteady Box-Set and 100 Greatest Sea-Shanties? Maybe not...
Seneca, maybe you should start a new thread on Britain's railways...

You mean this is a serious attempt to arrange a South Dakota meet?
Well, I'll stop spamming as long as my Krasnoyarsk meet thread is treated with the same respect. (If it proves difficult, I could do Evenkia).

You tell 'em, Ming! The last time I checked, an ocean and lots of land separated my home state of South Dakota from Merry Old England!
Seriously, though, I bet I'm the only Poly person living in South Dakota. Hey, maybe this thread will get my fellow Sodak Polyites to speak up! C'mon, now! Add your voices to mine! Let SD Polyites ROAR!!!
Oh, and eat at Prairie Junction, of course.

Too bad. I would have driven through Saskatchewan, Manitoba, into North Dakota and from there into South Dakota, but you neglected to mention a date. My secretary just booked me up for the next few months, so can you hold off til March?

Heh, sure. That's about how long it'll take me to recover from the holidays.
I went to Canada once, with my parents; Toronto, I believe. I vaguely remember the border crossing ... the armed soldiers, machine gun nests ... oh, wait, no, that's from my father's time in the military over in what used to be West Germany.

I want to see the Corn Palace next time I'm in SD. I don't really remember the Missouri River that time. I was most likely napping, since I'd been driving for a while, and we had to be back in Chicago that evening.
I'd also like to see the bad lands, Pine Ridge Indian Res, Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills, and a few other things.

I could get to Bruxelles in that time.
It took me 2hrs to get into London the other day. Damned fire at New Cross. Plus Connex is putting fares up more than anywhere else in the country.
Regards South Dakota. I stopped by there when I went to Mt Rushmore. Its a hip and happening place, compared to Nebraska.

now if you make it South California I can make it. SD is out of the question. Although I've always wanted to visit the badlands. I just like the name

Yep, there's a number of interesting things you can find when poking around South Dakota most are off the "beaten path," so to speak, however.

Hey! I was waiting for you this morning at Prairie Junction! It took me three hours one-way to get there ... and nobody was there! Then I come back home, log on to Poly and see you later said that southern California is a better place to meet.
My feelings are hurt.
I'm sending you my gas bill.
