hwacha...golden age?
Hi I'm new to ptw but have lots of experience with civ3. The korean UU intrigues me, the hwacha. iirc in order to trigger a GA a UU must win a batlle. but how is this possible with the korean UU since it's just a bombard unit?

Simple.
It's NOT possibile.
You'll need to build some Great Wonders in order to trigger GA with Koreans.

Unlike other bombard units, the Korean hwacha (literally 'fire car') is capable of killing other units. Therefore it is possible to start a Golden Age with a hwacha by destroying an enemy unit (excluding barbarians).

dont believe everything you read...although it says hwacha can lethally bombard in the civilopedia and civ3.com site, i believe they cannot, they can only reduce hitpoints to red.

looks like the koreans are the weakest civ of all. not only their UU is one of the worst, it can't give a GA either! and I thought musketeers or F-15 are bad enough for those historians out there, are there any other units fit to replace the hwacha? I remember AOE has some turtle ships or some unique siege weapons.
Happy holidays!

Yeah, it's quite a huge disadvantage. I suggest you check out the Beta-Tester mod, or just manually edit the .bix file yourself.

Hwacha doesn't kill??!!??!!
Well, damn! I just started a PBEM as the Koreans. I'm gonna get wiped! Well, I'll get wiped whether the hwacha kills or not. Still, hours of fun . . . .
I've seen a real hwacha, by the way. It's in the National War Museum in Seoul. I've also walked through a life-sized floating replica of the turtle ship in Yeosu. Unless you were a small person it must have been very uncomfortable to sail in one for any length of time. With the upper deck covered in iron spikes you couldn't get up on deck for a breath of fresh air. Still, a very impressive design.

I find the hwa'cha too good as it is... 12 bombardment is given too early and if it falls on the hands of someone who's artillery happy... watch out.
So thank god it doesnt trigger GA... Lethal bombard artillery? Is anyone on crack? that would be ridiculously powerful!
You'll just have to play Koreans just like Americans and English. The main difference is that both English and Americans CAN trigger a GA with their UU, it's just that with their UU, its not likely that you'll get ur GA with a UU. So if anyone plays English or Amercians, theres not much of newness here.
