well, you have taken the first steps in coming to this forum. To get in a game, post to a thread where people are looking for opponents or post your own thread here. Another good option is to join a game as a replacement but you will likely end up with a less than great position.
Once you are in a game, the person before you in the turn order will send you the game file as an attachment (zipped). You unzip it to whatever directory you will be using to play then
1. start the game (selecting classic or crossfire depending on the game setup
2. click multuplayer
3. click hotseat/play by email
4. click Load multiplayer game
5. click the appropriate file
6. enter your password ( as given to you by an independent person that set up the game or as you pick yourself
7. Play
8. hit turn complete when done
9. The password screen for the next human pops up but just choose save and exit ( naming the file)-- usual names are GAMENAME-PLAYERNAME(that you are passing to)-YEAR
10 zip the file and send to the next player in turn order
If you have possible opponents and are looking to set up your own game, you can do steps 1,2, and 3 above but as step 4 you can choose New Multiplayer game. This leads to a number of options about settings ( similar to starting a single player game) before you get to the " choose faction" screen. There you choose how many humans and how many AI. After all the setup is done you get a password screen for the first player which can be handled as above.
Welcome to Pbem and enjoy

Heah vee4437,
here is a PBEM Game forming up, if your interested:
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...16#post1574416
If you take up the 4th slot, I'll probably recommend that this is enough human players, and I'll start setting up the game tonight.
Also, another good site for SMAC(X) PBEM's is at www.civgaming.net/forums . It also has the SMAC Academy, which has lots of good tips for playing against other humans, as well as tips for improving your play!
