The Commonwealth of Akiria
Due to the growing population of Apolyton, the people of Akiria feel that everyone should know a bit about its founder.
Akiria is a lush and green land, and is widely known for its exquisite beauty. It is a free land with a rapidly growing population, currently at 7 million. We believe in freedom, equality and meritocracy, and as such place large emphasis on social welfare, health and education. We have as low a tax rate as we can, while still having wonderful public facilities, and specialise in defensive weaponry, hi-tech industry, and the noble past-time of fishing.
We have recently passed laws giving the right to die with dignity, a media free from intervention, and a democracy free from corporations paying their way to power.
We have many doves, our symbol of peace, and our main aim is to rid the world of weapons of mass destruction through non-violent means. Our motto is "If we have no peace, we have nothing to fight for".
Akiria is also standing for the post of UN delegate for Apolyton. Please visit and, endorse us if you wish, here

I must commend the leadership of the Commonwealth of Akiria for their wise policies in promoting social equality and general public well-being, and I extend my support to them in their bid to become the Apolytonian Regional Delegate to the UN.

My thanks. I must also congratulate my esteemed friend from Centralis on his policies on drugs, social welfare and nudity As such, Centralis has received my endorcement for the UN. If however, he does not wish to stand for delegate, and as such does not want endorsing, I will withdraw it.

We are honoured that the Commonwealth of Akiria is prepared to support us for Regional Delegate, and although we did not intend to seek it for ourselves, we quite happy to accept the position if we are elected. Please maintain your endorsement, and we shall see who is most popular among the nations of Apolyton.

High praise from such a noble leader. I will try to hold up the ideals of peace and people's rights, but feel I cannot counter endorse The Peoples Republic of the Sovietskii Soyuz, for their belief in compulsory military service, few civil rights and an all-pervasive police force. However I commend their comittment to healthcare and education.

Though Karakas currently has no plans to join the United Nations, we look forward to working with Akiria within the Apolyton region.

While there are some in the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Alien Races who feel that the region's delegate should stand broadly in the middle of the political barometer so that the conservative nations of our region are not under-representated, the Prime Minister is in full support of the Commonwealth of Akiria's bid to represent Apolyton in the United Nations, as he believes that Akiria will do an honorable job in protecting human and civil rights.

I agree, and I believe I am relatively in the middle, economically speaking. I do not want crippling taxes, nor a command economy. However, I do want good public services, free state education and healthcare and good social services. That is all internal though. For the UN, I want civil rights, political freedom, equality and most importantly peace. And of course, I want to raise the profile of Apolyton

My thanks. Akiria will try to do what is best for all Apolyton.
In Akiria's timezone, it is now after 4 in the morning, and even its leader needs some sleep, so I'm singing off for the night

why don't we have a single thread where each member may have one post where they can talk about their country, with the first post being an index linking to all of the posts?

I would have thought that the Sovietskii Soyuz, of all nations, would appreciate the value of freedom and corporate non-involvment in politics over 'economic growth'.

You can show your support for a candidate by voting for them, not by employing what amounts to legalized bribery. To permit private donations allows allows wealthy individuals to dmoniate the political process by funding candidates who will further their own interests - which results in an increase in social inequality, thereby giving the wealthy an even greater share of political power and at the same time impoverishing the masses.

I am saddened to hear that. However, I must defend my decisions. I will not see the civil rights of my people foundered by either quotas for ethnic minorities, or by subsidising the correct portrayal of ethnic minorities. I am saddened by the popularity of such a racist show, but it is not my place to ban it. While I do not allow hate speech, I do not see such a problem with politically incorrect comedy.
I will not allow my electorate to be bought into voting for candidates that do not wish the best for our nation, and have ulterior motives. Therefore, I will not allow corporations to dominate the political arena aswell, we must have a seperation of powers. Indeed, I do not wish to 'backbend' my people, i wish them to think for themselves, rather than be told what to think by a corporations. The media will also remain neutral in all political matters, and is not controlled by either corporations nor the government.

The Commonwealth of Akiria requests advisors from all nations on an issue. We have a tax rate of 24%, which rises for the wealthy. I did not feel this was too high, and I provide good services with it, but my people seem to. I have 3 choices:
Cut spending and subsidise business and therefore jobs,
Raise tax on the wealthy, cut it for the poor, or
Allow the public to choose where the money goes, more to education than business.
The 1st will ruin my public services, that help me promote equality, so I am warey of choosing that. the 2nd will promote equality, but might be going too far, I already have extra tax for the wealthy, and do not wish to stifle entrepreneurship. The 3rd will probably damage my economy even more, which is already weak. I can also dismiss it. I implore all nations to discuss the best option for the nation of Akiria.
My thanks to all who can help.

Several RL European nations have 50% income tax. And I wouldn't say those have weak economies. So 24% isn't much IMHO. Choose option two!

Just ignore that. It simply reflects the political bias of the site founder. You should read a "weak" economy simply as a "moderate-left" economy with a medium-sized public sector. Nothing more, nothing less.

Chose the second option - equality of the people is important, and stifling entrepreneurship is something that should be encuraged, not shied away from! Don't let the wealthy corporations control your people.

I like that, and thank you. I still like the 3rd though, it'll give my people more of say, and let me keep my services. It's so hard to decide

Ben, was that necessary? We did away with single nation threads a long time ago, and that was quite some bump
Let's leave this, and all the other single nation threads, where they belong, at the bottom. Sadly, as we still have no mod, this cannot be locked (I do not really wish to PM Markos or Dan again, as I don't want to bother them again)

no, you're thinking of cedayon. i plan evil borehole schemes, but cedayon makes the complicated, often anti-akirian jokes about them, which usually involve some sort of visual aid
