It's fun, one of the few that I've actually played from start to end.

IIRC, it doesn't have anything to do with LOTR, but is more a general fantasy scenario. Of course, Tolkien wrote other books, so it still might be based on tolkien's work

Yea, it´s based on the "Silmarillion". This book includes tales of the first age (Beleriand) and the second age (Numenor).
In the case of this scenario, it´s based on the "Dagor Bragollach" battle; "The battle of the Sudden Flame"
If you wanna know more about the first age of Middle Earth, go here:

AWESOME SITE!!!!
If you are asking yourself... The answer is YES.
I´M A TOLKIEN FAN!!!

Civ2 has also another great scen about Tolkien masterpieces: 'Lord of the Rings' of Harlan Thompson!
Very good scen, with two versions: one playable as Gondor, an one playable as Isengard

Yes, thank you, El Leon. They are also good scens
I think that there is also a modpack for Civ3 based on Tolkien work, but I'm not sure.

The scenario Fall Of Beleriand is also great. It's a MUCH BETTER scenario than Dagor Bragollach IMHO and it's also based on the Silmarillion. You get to do many tasks with hero units like Beren & Luthien, Dior and so on.
And yes.. I'm also an tolkien fan..
Favoured Flights scenarios is a MUST... he's releasing FotR tonight or tomorrow..

I didn't know there was a version where you play as Isengard!
Where can I get it? The version I have played was great (although very very difficult).

Well, with the version I downloaded some time ago, there are two .scn files, and one of them is called Isengard
You can download the scen from the Spanish Civilization Page (in English) on
spanish.apolyton.net

or this sleague webpage
