Arabs attack Grozny
Terrorist acts targeting Grozny are being financed by unnamed Arab countries, Moscow's leading anti-espionage agent says.
The head of the anti-terrorist branch for the northern Caucuses, Col. Ilya Shabalkin, said orders were coming from a well-known rebel, Shamil Basayev, and a representative of the "Muslim Brotherhood" -- Abu Al Walid , CNN's Jill Dougherty reported.
Military intelligence, he says, recently learned that Abu Al Walid was ordering a series of terrorists attacks on Grozny. The attacks are being financed by several Arab countries, which were not named.
http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/europe...oll/index.html
If true, this is a virtual declaration of war on Russia by the concerned Arab countries. Any speculation on which Arab countries may be involved?

I dunno, but I wouldn't be too quick in trusting the Russians here. There's still way too much government secrecy and corruption left over from the Soviet era.

I think Russia may renew hostilities with it's old rival, the Turks. Perhaps the Turks will even try to regain the Crimea.

Right, like Russia is in any position to mess with a NATO member.

Che, if it is the Gulf States and Saudi Arabia, why would they be financing terror in Grozny? I don't get it?

The people behind the seperatist movement in Chechnya are Wahhabists, which is the extremist sect of Sunni Islam that most of the Gulf follows. The Wahabis are spreading their extremist brand of Islam throughout the Sunni world. Remember, 15 of 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudis, and a lot of their funding came from Saudi Arabia.

It is a well know fact that must muslim terror organizations get there funds from Persian Gulf states. Those countries have lax control over "charitable" giving and a population which has been taught from birth to be xenophobic and filled with hate. The autocrates in charge figured they could unite their populations behind their dictatorships by training the people to hate outsiders. Now, I doubt the Saudis and their ilk could stop the flow of terror funds if they wanted to.

It seems like Russia just wants to go indiscriminantely after Chechnya and call them linked with Al Queda so we'll look the other way.

And they're not doing it right now? I think Russia realizes that the rest of the world doesn't care enough of chechnya and it can do whatever it pleases there.

There's strange stuff goin' on here.
I heard the bombers drove by three Russian checkpoints without stopping. And no one shoots??
And then the head of the Chechnyan resistence condemns the attack.

Well we were able to bomb one of their allies and force them to open their provinces into occupation.
Imran: It seems that there may well Al Qaeda- Chechen connections. Alot of the foreign Taliban fighters were Chechens, and when Islamic fundamentalists list their grievances against us they routinely list US support of Russians in Checnya as one.

Errrm. I think you prolly have already.
What remains to be seen is if your nation has the will to do the job. And if the hangers on do not draw you back.
The course of the next 50 years will be determined by who has the will. Weak kneed liberals may not like it, but that is the case. European Enlightenment concepts simply cannot co-exist with some other views of the universe.

European Enlightenment concepts survived the 20th century, so its a very good bet that they will survive the first half of the 21st, unless they are undermined and destroyed from within, like, with statements like these.
I say: all of thsoe calling for a crusade, do what the first actual crusaders did, get together yourself, form a private army, and away with you: go fight my boys, no one is stopping you.
